The Ukraine war is dragging on. The far east of Ukraine was pro Russian and they are now occupying it, so in negotiations would you give it up for the chance to end the war?.
"The far east of Ukraine was pro Russian"
It wasn't: in 1991 those regions voted overwhelmingly to be part of Ukraine and most Russians who lived there and did "look to Russia" (whatever that means) long ago learned to hate Putin.
"so in negotiations would you give it up for the chance to end the war"
It's not that type of war: not a "territorial dispute" but a destructive war of genocide against the whole country.
So Tora and Naomi are correct
That's ok William: it's one of the great myths about Ukraine (encouraged by the Kremlin) that there was some sort of separatist movement that started a rebellion. Undoubtedly many people felt less Ukrainian both in the east and the south (even Crimea tho voted 57-43 to be in Ukraine) but they didn't want to be part of Russia
I think if Ukraine, in part or as a whole, fell or ceded territory, Russia wouldn't stop there.
