What happens to the MPs who were ousted, do they have their previous jobs to go back to or businesses to run, also the staff of their constituency office, do they lose their jobs?

Lembit Opik appeared on "Have I Got News for You" last night appealing for someone to give him a job.
MPs have staffing needs that Ex-MPs don't - so I'm afraid while there may be jobs for some, the majority of constituency staff - mainly secretaries - will be out of a job. This is one of the convincing arguments for allowing MPs to employ their spouses as staff; it's not necessarily a job for life and there are almost never any prospects of promotion. My next-door neighbour was secretary to a popular and hard-working Labour MP. In what turned out to be Tony Blair's last election campaign, however, he lost his seat and she lost her job and ultimately her house. MPs get a redundancy payment, constituency staff don't get much more than a thank you.
Lembit also commented that now he wasn't an MP, he could receive a fee for appearing on the programme!
Isn't / was his partner part of a pop group or something .

hasn't she got a few bob to tide him over untill he secures a check out position at Tesco's , or somewhere
Yes, he was with one of the Cheeky Girls once upon a time but not now. I doubt she'll bail him out.
