Offensive or not? Was the landlord being a prude here? Do you cringe when you see gays kissing in public?

FFSake, this isn't about smoking it's about offensive behaviour in pubs. I've been in pubs where people have been asked to leave for persistent swearing.

I can't stand pubs which is why I stay out of them and if anyone finds something offensive in them I suggest they don't go there. Stay at home or go to church instead

Sophie, you've raised another point there I do find bad language offensive in public places where it is possible to find families with children ( pubs serving food etc.) so yes I would love to see a law banning it in pubs.Ron.

Some people also find children in pubs offensive so ...let's have a law banning smoking, swearing, snogging and children in pubs.

I'd support the law banning snogging and children from pubs...

On a serious note, I don't like PDA's particularly and since the landlord said he would have done it for a hetrosexual couple too then I don't think I particularly see the problem. Tad harsh maybe.

I fail to see how "his pub, his rules" would apply when "his bed & breakfast, his rules" would not. Oh silly me, we're talking about law aren't we so no point in expecting it to make any sense.

ah yes, would he have asked a heterosexual couple kissing to leave ? How about someone snogging their dog. Or maybe a necrophiliac with a corpse playing tonsil tennis. Ah what a slippery slope when one tries to ban sexual behaviour in the public house.

Perhaps it would be fair to say heavy snogging is over the line, a quick peck is acceptable affection. But getting agreement on where to draw the line wouldn't be easy. It's all subjective opinion.

The fact that some people are uncomfortable with two blokes kissing in public should mean that the two blokes should respect this and desist rather than insist on their rights to upset whoever they want to. They might have a perfect right to do it - but that doesn't mean that they are right to do it.

I think harmless displays of affection are fine for either gay or straight people, but it gets tacky when it starts to turn into a fully clothed porn film. As long as the landlord really would have chucked out a hetero couple doing the same, all fine, but i can't remember the last time I saw any straight couple kicked out of a pub for chewing each other's faces off.

A park I used to take take my grandsons to on the way home from school had a
notice on the gate that said:- No smoking, and no dogs in the childrens play area.
Yet there regularly used to be this couple [who had kids playing in the park] openly
snogging and rolling around in the grass in a state of undress. There should have
been a notice for no foreplay also!

Not a problem to me.........homosexual or heterosexual, if the landlord did not kick them out, then I would just leave......................the choice is for the landlord.

Pub rules are the discretion of the brewer or landlord but they should be consistent. Our local Wetherspoons doesn't permit men to wear hats in the bar and told a bloke to remove his beanie hat or he wouldn't be served. The bloke pointed out someone wearing a flat-cap and asked why he was allowed. The answer was "he is a pensioner and comes here every day"
