Good old Boris!

Boris Johnson wrote in the Evening Standard recently about stopping (quote) “…the outrage of Scottish MPs voting on London matters when London MPs have no such say in Scotland.
There are 76 London MPs and each and every one of them DOES have a say in all matters affecting Scotland other than those specifically devolved to the Scottish government. If, for example, these 76 vote for an increase in income tax, is Johnson under the impression that this will have no effect on Scottish wages?
Even worse, what do you suppose he thinks of the group of 26 Englishmen who have a direct hand in passing legislation in Scotland even though they have no direct connection with Scotland and there is no balancing body of Scotsmen with such an impact on English people? I refer, of course, to the Anglican bishops who have seats in the House of Lords.

I wonder if Boris has a view on the fact that a London MP, George Cunningham, introduced an amendment to the 1978 Scotland Act requiring 40% of the Scots electorate to vote in favour of Devolution for it to go ahead?

Where on earth have you been, TCL? I haven't seen you around for ages. Good point. I understand some Tories want any proposed strike to have over a certain percentage support from the TOTAL union membership rather than just a certain percentage of members who VOTED for it to be valid. I'd probably agree with them if they were prepared to apply the same rule to general election candidates...we might even get rid of the lot of them that way!
Good for you, Anne. If you see the plonker as some sort of symbol/icon for England, feel free. I won't quibble.
