Is this not her first official visit?

I don't think it's going to stop until they kill everyone and then turn on themselves.
JFK, Reagan, The Pope

We don't want the Queen to be added to this list so why is she taking such a huge risk by visiting there?

quote from gerry adams the then leader of the provisional i.r.a...''HE [MOUNTBATTEN] KNEW THE DANGERS INVOLVED OF COMING TO THIS COUNTRY,IN MY OPINION THE I.R.A ACHIEVED ITS OBJECTIVE,PEOPLE STARTED PAYING ATTENTION TO WHAT WAS HAPPENING IN IRELAND''..has anything really changed???...after the murder of that policeman the other week, and various other i.r.a targets being hit i would advise the queen not to go on this visit [if i could of course]..the i.r.a are after another ''spectacular'' and a major target is coming to their heartland...doesnt make sense to me...
I think the visit marks the fact that 'the troubles' are finally settled. The new NI parliament at Stormont has just been re-elected. There are a few hotheads still, but peace is here. That's worth celebrating.
Ok, so such a lot of disruption!..........for what?.............why is she doing this visit?.........I can't see the point of it!............
Sandy.......'I think the visit marks the fact that 'the troubles' are finally settled'

Do these fresh IRA threats suggest 'the troubles' are finally settled???

They never will be
Question Author
ive served in n.i joe and you are right the troubles will never be settled...no matter how many sanctions the british make,im sorry if i offend any irish people reading this but when i served my tours over there i have never felt such hatred from certain sections of the community, yes i know it is only a minority, and i also met some lovely people as well..but in the early 80s being a british soldier in northern ireland was not good for the health...
Brave man stokie, at least you came back in one piece, other soldiers were not so lucky

They'll always hate the English so why the hell her maj is taking this risk is beyond me
Question Author
too right joe,do you know they even trained the dogs to attack the squaddies..they baited them so that they attacked the khaki green colours..mad or what??? that is one of my most vivid memories,i dont know why...
Question Author
ps i just hope that all goes well tomorrow on this pointless visit...
Where I used to live the soldiers poisoned the local dogs. They used to bark when the army foot patrols were out at night.
Yeah, fingers crossed
Question Author
cant say i was party to that sandy but it did happen..very bad times and it looks like certain elements want to drag us back down that dark road once again...
Perhaps the soldiers poisoned the dogs to stop them attacking them, seems logical
The difference between then and now is the size of the support for the dissidents. Years ago half of the population would have given at least tacit support to the IRA. These people now are a few hundred strong and on a path to nowhere.
My niece's dog didn't present much of a threat. It was a Chihuahua called Beauty
Sorry to hear that sandy, but in conflict there are always innocent victims

To answer your second question I think the answer is Never !
There will always be people , usually of low intellect , who need to resort to violence.
For that purpose they need a cause so they can meet up with others with similar needs. As a result you get the gang culture, football hooliganism etc.which is fairly localised and of shorter duration but politics can be used for centuries. You can always go back and find reasons for your cause.
In Ireland even if it was united the violent element would still find an excuse.
lol @ redhelen if the irish hate us that much why are so many living here (by the way i have loads of irish friends here best people i know)...!! was best man at ones wedding
