And while they're at it they should take Lord Archer's ermine robe and coronet.

agree entirely with both of those comments
He got his knighthood for services (????) to banking and charity (with him charity seems to begin at home considering the massive pension he has)

I quite like Hopkirk's suggestion

change his status to W@nker imo
hear hear bobbi, and t'others !!
I'd be quite happy if these gongs were given out for a fixed period say 10 years after which they relapse.

For people to cling onto past glories for services rendered should be discouraged. Its seems no different from a Major or Captain keeping their titles way after they have retired and stinks of bull-sh!t.
Yes definitely, when they are a disgrace to the country and bring dishonour on their award that award should be taken away from them.
Has he done anything illegal!

Has he been just accepted a pension that someone was stupid enough to give him?

Did he volunteer to give up some of that pension?

If his Knighthood was on merit, a subsequent business failure should not nullify his honour, otherwise all the knighted captains of industry would be sending them back.

He is just an easy target.
yes gromit, but one who sticks in one's craw.

It's all very well being honourable after the fact.
Exactly what has being honourable got to do with being a knight? Except of course in fairytales and movies.
Sorry - but can someone explain why he should be stripped of his knighthood?

For having an affair?

Has he been convicted of something illegal? Depending on what it is, I could understand that - but an affair?

Should John Major have his ennoblement taken away after his affair with Edwina Currie?

Should Prince Charles have been stripped of 'His Royal Highness' after his affair with Camilla?
I agee totally with the comments of Gromit/sp1814.
agreed - but if all he's guily of is "just an affair", why did he feel the need to cover it with an injunction so strict that it required parliamentary privilege to even learn of its existence?
mushroom....cus he didn't want his wife to know.....!!!
It really is as simple as that, sqad.

I don't think he should be stripped of his knighthood. What a mahoosive can of worms that would open up.
there are probably many men in that position sqad - clearly then the law exists only for the benefit of the super rich and powerful. so much for equality before the law and all that bullshine.
Lore....like you and 99% of the people on AB.....I don't know the full details and never will.

My answer was born out of experiences.
Totally agree, sqad. :)

I wouldn't have put it that strongly but your point is well taken, but it has ALWAYS been so weighted and always will be....that's life.

If you were suing me and i could afford a top QC but you could only afford a lesser known QC, who do you you think would start off with a "2 goal " lead?

Good on Sir Fred, if he can get a knighthood and £600,000 a year pension and all under a Labour Government........he deserves a knighthood for that alone ;-).
