dt, is this post really about you being fed up with a fellow aber ?
Saying 'I think the landlord did it' is different to saying 'the landlord did it'

I think....makes it an opinion...opinions are not illegal.

they may well have done JTH/Gromit.....in the person's case who left, it became very personal when it became off the site and involving threats.
I know who he means..............but my lips are sealed.
Ed has no control over what happens 'offsite'
So you expect the AB Ed to police things occuring off-site ?

And how did these off-site details become known ?
well you must have given out personal details, what do you expect ?

No the Twitter case does pose some interesting legal issues for all sites that Chat or are an exchange of views like here. Libel laws should equally apply - the issue I guess here is the need for laws "sans frontier" for the Web........

In the Council's case, they must have blown a fair penny in taking action in San Mateo, CA, which is home to Paolo Alto and Silicon Valley.
A bottle of Bombay Sapphire for you, craft, if you are indiscreet enough.........:o)
lol Jack I'm not that cheap..................er hang on.

No I agree Ed has no controil off site, but when it starts or is resultant of being onsite then they do...and they could see action being taken to reveal the IP address/e-mail.

For the record, only a very select few of you (less than 5) know who I am and have my personal e-mail. And it has been done through dummy e-mails to set up the connection. It's a shame as I do find most of you to incredibly nice, amusing and compassionate and it would be great to be freer with sharing e-mails.

The one rotten apple in the barrel syndrome......
I am puzzled how threats were made 'off site'?

Was this person already known to you? How did they get personal info?
there are forums and chat places much worse than answerbank, the key I suppose is to limit the amount of personal detail you publish on the site and be certain you trust the person you divulge info to.

the site moderation should keep nastiness to a minimum
If you saw fit to give real-life details to a 'select few'.........and are now suffering the consequences, I'm afraid that you are pointing the finger of blame in entirely the wrong direction...

I may get a bit of flack 'on-site' but I have nothing in the real-world........can you possibly guess why that is ?

craft - It's got your name on it..............

Can I just say ........................

What The Funicular ?
I agree with jack, in this case one of the 5 was probably a poor choice of close contact, this isnt the Ed's fault.
// For the record, only a very select few of you (less than 5) know who I am and have my personal e-mail. //

There is your answer - it is your own fault. You should NEVER give your personal details to people you do not know.
Jack I can't possibly say in case it's a 'Jemima Khan'............
Question Author
JTH - it is NOT one of my e-mailers. Lets be clear about that.
so how are they gleaning your details DT?
