They use these bully tactics on people who dont require a licence by law, ie those that dont watch or record TV as its being broadcast, those that use a tV just to watch DVD or as a large PC screen

The two things which I think are pretty much sacrosanct (and almost always worth defending) in this country: the NHS and the BBC.

I think the BBC takes great pains to always show two opposing views - however distasteful one or another may be. It's why I often feel their news programs lack editorial direction.

This isn't to say the BBC doesn't have problems (he's called Chris Moyles) but everyone who demands the abolishment of the BBC is often missing the point.

I'm sure there are cases of this - and it is regrettable! But I am sure the majority of the time they're catching bad guys. There are cases of people abusing power in all walks of life, it's not something to do with the licence fee collectors - it's something fundamental to people.

I've watched 'The Killing'..........'Spiral'............'The Shadow Line' in recent months.
Any of which, individually, would have been worth the Licence Fee on its own....

Ummmm, How I agree too about the 'no adverts' I hardly watch commercial tv any more because of the amount of ad breaks AND they're getting longer. I use my planner and record then when I watch I can FF through that cr@p.
Means staying up late sometimes but its well worth it.
BUT I do like to settle down & watch a good drama on BBC knowing there's no interuptions.
(we do agree on some things Ummmm)

I agree Jack. Melvin Bragg, Laurie Taylor, Mark Kermode, Simon Mayo and most of the R4 today program staff is worth the licence fee to me though (rather than drama, although I am looking forward to Sherlock when it returns).

I would like my money back for the one show though...

Of course...........in arguments about the 'worth' of the BBC licence, the radio output tends to get over-looked..........

Radio 4 is a fantastic station and anyone who 'tuts' or think it's a station for the 'highbrow' or snobs owes it to themselves to spend a day listening...

The tv in my house is hardly ever on however I have no issue with paying my licence fee for my extensive and daily use of the BBC's radio services - particularly Radios 4, 4Extra and the World Service.

I agree with the Ed, as I always say, when I jump to the defence of the BBC, it is a must to look at articles in the press with a jaundiced eye.

The ground, and the audience, that the BBC have is wanted by some very covetous eyes indeed. If the general public were persuaded that the BBC was biased it would be coup. You need to ask yourselves who would benifif, why no other than those very organisations who publish the press (not all of them of course) so any criticism of the BBC contains a vested inerest.

It just like the water comapnies, who after selling off reservoirs , for housing, state that every time we get near drought conditions, that the only soloution is a water meter in every home.
