What absolutely disgusting behaviour. I had no idea this had gone on. Her poor parents. What punishment would be appropriate do you think?

The depths to which the press will sink in order to 'scoop' one another are utterly disgraceful........I really don't know what 'ought' to happen in this instance but I'd love it to be 'Medieval'........
that is truly shocking.
If it is true........

Judiciary sentences for the report and Ed.
"What punishment would be appropriate do you think? "
Well, we know what punishment this government thinks is appropriate - to allow The NOTW owner to take over most of the UK media.

I'm still in shock over this. How dare they delete messages from her phone, how ******* dare they. Outrageous. This has got to be prison for the reporter and ed at least, as DT says, or even better medievals a la JTH.
There is no appropriate punishment, just don't let me get my hands on them.
hopefully everyone will stop buying this paper and the sun.. only then will they start to think about the harm they do...Tell everyone you know to stop buying these papars as from today..
> Hopefully everyone will stop buying this paper and The Sun

The Sun is the best-selling daily in the country by miles:
http://en.wikipedia.o...culation_in_the_2000s

Nobody is forced to buy it. The fact that it sells almost a million copies more than its nearest rival is symptomatic of the on-going dumbing-down of the nation - you may as well hope that tomorrow doesn't dawn...

What might be interesting, though highly unlikely, would be for someone who buys The Sun or The News of the World on a regular basis to explain why they do so...

It's on ITV news at 10 now.
About time they started stringing those creeps up.
Need them dealt with properly ... not to be able to BUY their way out of trouble like the rest.

Looks as if all hell has broken loose. Too right. The whole thing has moved to another level now as the news spreads.
New Judge will be able to cobble up 20 charges I would think - don't know if he is around tonight.

Perverting the Course of Justice being high up the list.......
// he intercepted messages left by relatives and said the NoW deleted some, which gave her parents false hope she was alive. //

I don't understand that. Why would he delete any messages? And if they were leaving messages on the phone, they must have thought Milly still had it and she was missing. So how did they know the messages were being deleted?

If the allegations are true, then prison sentences for the investigaor and ed. And a hefty fine for News International. And next time he is invited to No.10, Cameron should give Murdoch a chinese burn.
Gutter press sinks to a new low. Sewer press? Certainy last time I looked at NOTW all I saw was shi.........
Gromit, as I understand it, the messages were full and so the hackers deleted some making room for new messages to be left. People trying to leave a message when it was full would have heard a message saying that it was full and so, when the hackers deleted, that message would have gone and the poor loved ones must have hoped that Milly was listening to her messages.

I agree with every other right minded person - this is outrageous and evil. I wouldn't use the Sun or NoW to keep me warm if I were living on the streets, never mind buy a copy!
Murdoch owns the News of the World. No UK politician dare fall out with him. Remember Blair travelling to meet him in the USA?
This type of activity by the papers is absolutely disgraceful. And it becomes increasingly difficult to believe that Rebekah Wade or Andy Coulson knew nothing of these activities. Unacceptable behaviour even when it was "only politicos and celebs", This is just gutter press at its worst - And this is the group of papers headed by Mr. Murdoch, who looks to have been rubber stamped to acquire more power and influence.
Gromit, the Guardian says they deleted the messages after listening to them because her voicemail box was full; presumably they hoped to listen to further messages as they arrived. But the parents found the voicemail box had been emptied, and concluded that she was deleting the messages herself and was therefore alive.

Thanks for the clarification. That makes sense.

Apart from behaving disgustingly, the hack was stupid as well.
I wonder why there has been a muted response to this story (phone hacking in general by the NoTW) from other Fleet Street titles? It's almost as if they've looked into their own back yards and seen that they're guilty of the same misdemeanours?

Only time will tell.
