What absolutely disgusting behaviour. I had no idea this had gone on. Her poor parents. What punishment would be appropriate do you think?

The Sun is the best-selling daily in the country by miles:

Nobody is forced to buy it. The fact that it sells almost a million copies more than its nearest rival is symptomatic of the on-going dumbing-down of the nation - you may as well hope that tomorrow doesn't dawn...
What might be interesting, though highly unlikely, would be for someone who buys The Sun or The News of the World on a regular basis to explain why they do so...

// he intercepted messages left by relatives and said the NoW deleted some, which gave her parents false hope she was alive. //
I don't understand that. Why would he delete any messages? And if they were leaving messages on the phone, they must have thought Milly still had it and she was missing. So how did they know the messages were being deleted?
If the allegations are true, then prison sentences for the investigaor and ed. And a hefty fine for News International. And next time he is invited to No.10, Cameron should give Murdoch a chinese burn.

Gromit, as I understand it, the messages were full and so the hackers deleted some making room for new messages to be left. People trying to leave a message when it was full would have heard a message saying that it was full and so, when the hackers deleted, that message would have gone and the poor loved ones must have hoped that Milly was listening to her messages.
I agree with every other right minded person - this is outrageous and evil. I wouldn't use the Sun or NoW to keep me warm if I were living on the streets, never mind buy a copy!

This type of activity by the papers is absolutely disgraceful. And it becomes increasingly difficult to believe that Rebekah Wade or Andy Coulson knew nothing of these activities. Unacceptable behaviour even when it was "only politicos and celebs", This is just gutter press at its worst - And this is the group of papers headed by Mr. Murdoch, who looks to have been rubber stamped to acquire more power and influence.
Gromit, the Guardian says they deleted the messages after listening to them because her voicemail box was full; presumably they hoped to listen to further messages as they arrived. But the parents found the voicemail box had been emptied, and concluded that she was deleting the messages herself and was therefore alive.
