today nick griffin the leader of the bnp was charged with comments likely to incite racial hatred . firstly i am not a racist. but  feel strongly that this man should be arrested for practising free speach when the radical cleric abu hanza could preach anti west hatred outside finsbury park mosque and it took the police forever to arrest him .what do you think about this issue?

Didn't mean "ashamed to be white and support the BNP" - obviously if you were you'd stop supporting them! I meant "ashmed that the BNP claim to represent white people" ... or something like that... I'll shut up!
cruthinboy - point taken sorry for misinterpreting you. But as you say it was ambiguous phrasing. As for your other question - the way we went into Iraq was not something that made me proud to be British

cruthinboy - I agree with your middle paragraph - well said!

We Tax & N.I. contributors were paying for this person to stand on his soap box preaching & cashing in on his Social Security Benefits - doesn't make sense does it?

Nuff said.................!.

To put into context, imagine living with a friend for the last twenty years with free bed and board, free use of their facilities, and even taking weekly 'pocket money' from them without any constructive input from you, and then having the gall to constantly insult your host. Politics and religion aside, how could ANYONE do this without the slightest feeling of guilt?

Oh, I absolutely agree with the last post. Also I object to my hard earned taxes supporting such a parasitic individual.

I also have the same reaction to any person who happily lives off the state whilst making no attempt to contribute and / or committing crimes be they black, white, brown or purple, whether they profess to be Moslem, Christian, Buddhist or Satanist.

I remember reading an interview with the comedian Omid Djalili who is Moslem. He said that as a Moslem whenever Hanza's views were seen or used by the media as being representative of all moslems it was basically false. That the equivalent would be a reporter on Al Jazeera tv saying - and now for a christian reaction to this news lets go over live to the Grand Wizard of the Klu Klux Klan.

The original question was not about whether anyone supported Hanza. It was asking if Nick Griffin should be arrested when Hanza wasn't for so long. Politically I detest both. Personally I would prefer both to shut up and go away. Morally, I disagree in the strongest possible terms with both. Whether they should have a right to free speech is debatable under law but I believe in consistency. Either defend the rights of both to speak out or defend neither.

BigDogsWang - couldn't have put it better myself!
I reminds me of the saying "Taking from the hands that feed you".

Can I just say how impressed I am with the level of debate on this original post. I was cringing when I saw the number of replies, because race is always such as contentious issue, but it looks like (for once) a load of level headed adults have been involved.

As a non-white British citizen, I've recently come to realise that the debate should've moved on. It's worrying that we still have a BNP (I grew up in the 70s when we had the NF - think of them as 'Classic BNP').

My gut reaction to the story - "If the evidence proves that they have broken the law, then they should both be jailed...hopefully together".

Wouldn't that just make a fantastic sitcom!
