Would the Government and the Met be wise to take this guys advice?
Should Bill Bratton, the former New York and Los Angeles police chief, have been the new commisioner of the Metropolitan Police, and was Theresa May, racist by refusing to accept him because he isn't British?
/// Mrs may was unhappy with the idea of an American taking on the country's most senior policing job ahead of a Briton.///
/// The role was advertised specifying that "applicants must be British citizens", ruling out any hope Mr Bratton had of applying for the job.///

How many young people have died this year, by being knifed or shot,
i don't know the figure, but i bet you it isn't one or two, and that should shake up the government and anyone who will listen

so I suppose Liverpool is a beautiful little haven of security? I know what the problems are, but to put some chap who's had a few good ideas with regard tackling gangs as the head of the Met is a bit knee-jerk! That's not the only issue the police have to deal with!
Just to reiterate, by all means listen to his ideas, take them on board, but let's not paint him as some Winston Wolfe Mr Fix it! I'm sure there's plenty of people with a better idea of UK culture that have som cracking ideas too!

/// let's forget your statement about being accused of being systematically racist suggests all gang members are non-white.///
That would be the easy way out. The problem in London (and that is what we are mainly taking about) is the fact that the majority of the young gang members in question are unfortunately non-white.
And here lies the problem, there are many including the politicians, the police, and the media who are somehow reluctant to admit this fact, so consequently by using this attitude the Black on Black crime especially goes virtually unchecked.
/// have teams of people that will work together to hit the root causes of the issue instead of relying on tactics that may or may not translate well across cultures.///
That would be fine if you could get people to work together, but that is the trouble, although we may be a multi-cultural country, we do not integrate, the police for instant are at a loss in their investigations because the communities will not help them in their inquires, and the police in turn are forever walking on broken glass, in case they happen to offend anyone.
Time to forget what may or may not translate well across cultures, and take direct action no matter if it may offend certain groups, rigid stop and search methods may be a start.
The days of words, inquiries, and the general softly, softly approach are swiftly coming to an end, it's time these young crooks realised who is in charge.

AOG, the lack of co-operation from locals is nothing to do with ethnicity, it's to do with the fear of being labelled a 'grass' and the trouble that goes with it. Different cultures do mix, just not always and certainly not enough, that much we certainly agree on.
Although, in central London, a lot of the gang members are non-white, as I've said a hundred times before, that doesn't make ethnicity a deciding factor. So this black on black crime you're talking of is 'young male on young male' crime largely, and the people without the blinkers on recognise this. The problem is not with black people, or asian people, it's with young lads in inner urban areas because these are determining factors in the problem. The colour of one's skin does not make them more likely to join a gang!
How would you enforce such measures? Your average PCSO will get laughed away, even a couple of bobbies on the beat will not have much chance of intimidating a gang of 12 or so hard faced young lads intent on putting on a macho front.
Does that mean we need more police on patrol? How do we pay for that?
If there was a quick fix solution that mr average citizen could come up with then I'm sure that would be in place right now.
