/// 'The movement aims to unite the United Kingdom’s far-flung activist communities ///

Isn't that a miss-print, should it not read, "'The movement aims to unite the United Kingdom’s Far-Left activist communities?

Another outing for the 'Lefties' it seems, I wonder if the police will come down on them as they do on 'Right Wing' outings?

Why can't the Home Secretary ban this, like she did the last EDL march?

AOG, i have noticed this, if your opinion is different from others, then you need to get a life, if you express the fact the over populated capital comes to a grinding halt whenever people want to express their ire at the government, or some other moan, then why don't you move, i just love the fact that some assume that its either easy or remotely feasible to do so. Left wing, right wing, countryside alliance, or pensioners on speed, i don't care, enough already.

It would seem that some are seeking this,

Communism
a. A system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single, often authoritarian party holds power, claiming to make progress toward a higher social order in which all goods are equally shared by the people.
b. The Marxist-Leninist version of Communist doctrine that advocates the overthrow of capitalism by the revolution of the proletariat.

And we all know what that means don't we?

Or at least some do.

If that was so why didn't you add the usual :0)
Um I forget - who"s a naughty boy then? :0)
em10 a little of subject but the king of tonga arrives and they shut all of central london so he can get from the airport to buckingham palace.

Queens speech same.

Next year they are going to bring all of london to a standstill for 6 weeks.

Let them excercise thier democratic right, peacefully.
Anotheroldgit -

The underlying problem is the ever-widening gulf between the wealthy and the 'Middle Class'. The protesters aren't advocating the adoption of Communism - they just want a future for themselves, their children and grandchildren. Will your grandchildren (if you have any) be able to afford to drive or buy a house today or in the future?

It is only a redistrtibution of wealth that will settle the ferment, not just in the US and UK, but in other areas such as the Arab nations, Europe and Asia. Hoping for an economic Renaissance is hopeless as China has subsumed the West's economy. We have lost virtually all our manufacturing and that is the problem. First it went to Eastern Europe then to China and the rest of Asia. Unless the UK starts to re-build ships, cars, steel, electrical goods etc, starts to eat most of her own produce again and burns her own coal, oil and gas then the UK and EU economies will only continue to decline. 'Time' magazine recently made the analogy that if a mechanic sells his tools to pay outstanding debts then he has no hope of paying future ones!

Wealth must be redistributed for these protests to stop. But how - I don't think anyone knows!
Communism is a social theory which advocates that society should be classless. That's all there is to it.
DTD, fine, but when next years Olympics, the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebrations roll around, London won't cope, it's rail/underground/bus transport system is already fit to burst, so i predict that the best thing for any Londoner that can afford it, is to p iss off out of it for the duration.
Question Author
/// who"s a naughty boy then? ///

No not particularly a naughty one, just a boy.:0)
em10 of course it will cope. This is one of the great cities of the world.

But getting out for the Olympics might be a good idea if only I could.

/// Communism is a social theory which advocates that society should be classless. That's all there is to it.///

If only it was that easy.

I think there would be many in China and North Korea who would say differently, if only they were allowed to.
Oh no ! - I"ve been Punked by the old git! :0)
DTD, having been informed recently that all the local hotels, and that quite a few, will be full to the brim with the worlds media, it's time to either batten down the hatches, or as said, leave. I don't think the transport system will cope, it doesn't now.
aog - if it were that easy would you become a communist?
em10 of course it copes - when doesn't it. I travel into London day in day out and everything moves 3m journeys a day on the tube alone, yes some hiccups but in the main fine.
DTD, looks like we shall agree to disagree.
em do you live in London? Do you commute?
Londoner born and bred.

Your suggestions just like Communism sound good but are not workable.

/// Unless the UK starts to re-build ships, cars, steel, electrical goods etc, ///

Who would buy them? We couldn't possibly compete with Japan, China or India and that is a fact.

/// starts to eat most of her own produce again ///

We do now but we don't grow produce that we now expect to find on our supermarket shelves every day of the year.

/// and burns her own coal, oil and gas ///

We cannot again become a coal mining nation, because it would now cost too much to re-open the pits, and aren't we dissuaded from burning coal? But we do burn some of the oil and gas we get from the North Sea however.

As regards the Time Magazine's analogy, it is not worth the mechanic buying new tools even if he could afford it, if he hasn't a job where he could use those tools.
But do you commute? Do you use the system daily?
