Thanks for your support Judderman! I agree, there are a lot of narrow minded people on here..... They crack me up!

Given your rant to Carakeel, and your supposed German heritage and residence, I would have expected you to have a better appreciation of the history and current social development.

This serves to make your comments even more inane, judder.
History has proved that bloc countries do not work, ie USSR etc, and unfortunately nearly always end up in wars, and the way things are looking at the moment the franco/german alliance are heading towards a United states of Europe dominated by Germany.
21st Dec 2012.......end of the world. Does this mean I dont have to do Xmas shopping next year? Such a relief!!!
Actually I seem to recall just a couple weeks ago Angela Merkel hinting at the very same!!!! Cant remember her exact words now but wasnt it something like "Possible war in Europe if other countries dont do as Germany says!"?
Well said Brenden!
What she said was:

"“Nobody should take for granted another 50 years of peace and prosperity in Europe that’s what I say: If the Euro fails Europe fails. We have an historical obligation: to protect by all means Europe unification process begun by our forefathers after centuries of hatred and blood spill. None of us can foresee what the consequences would be if we were to fail.”

That is not quite the spin that you are putting on it......
Compare the full statement and then what was reported in the Mirror - typical soundbite journalism......distortion of the truth but then what else does one expect of the "Wail", the "Sexpress" and the Mirror.

I think our friend DTcrosswordfan would make an excellent Neville Chamberlain!

That is a very silly statement, mikkin.

Do your proper research on what was actually said before you jump forth with inane threads such as this. The Mirror et al are extremely biased in their reporting and love to distort what was really said or meant.
trigger - perhaps - and then there are potential dust-ups over Arctic rights re access to mineral and oil wealth.
What a sad state this wonderful world of ours is in - makes you realise we are the viruses on this planet.
Wasnt Winston Churchill saying for many years before WW2 that Germany was once again a threat to world peace? Wasnt he saying we should prepare for war?
No one would listen to a word he said. Only a year before war broke out Chamberlain insisted everything was going to be fine... "Peace in our time" he declared!!
A year Later all hell is let loose!
Now I know we are NO WHERE near that stage. But it dont look good!
You better had go and buy a WW2 gasmask and hard hat then, judder, and build an Anderson air-raid shelter at the bottom of your garden. I am sure Tesco or Asda will cut you a deal on tin and powdered foods.
Ill just go back to Germany!!
Don' be a fool ALL your life !!
No judderman, I can assure you that I have not been living under a rock for the past decade! I know the Germans very well and the French nearly as well, and the French are the biggest bullies in the EU, without a doubt! The Germans are seen as having some of the top rated financial experts and institutions in the world, hence so many countries in the EU have wanted to see them more involved in decisions regarding the current financial crisis. Just because they are becoming stronger within the EU does not mean they are out to start WW3 or take over the world!! The Germany of today is not the Germany of yesteryear and people should not be so quick to demonise the Germans, as soon as they have opinions and get involved in decision making!! I appreciate that you are from German decent, but to be honest that still does not make you right! I worked as a NATO translator with the German government, the American government and representatives from many other countries and that, mixed with having lived in Germany (west Germany at the time) for 28 years and then in France before coming to the UK as well as having friends still working and living there and giving me regular updates is what has formed my opinions of Germany. It is in the nature of many Germans to greatly criticise their own politics and representatives and life in their country, as there is a deep seated desire not to let the kind of things happen that happened in the past. Added to that, the German who came over from the east when the wall came down are often quite spiteful when talking about their country, a result of them not having been given everything on a plate when they entered into what had been west Germany. There was and still is a lot of resentment from the former east Germans. So no, it does not surprise or worry me that you and your family think the way you do. I have heard it all before and have learned to understand where a lot of this comes from. It is just a shame you are so negative. But you have every right to your opinions.
