I no longer feel sorry for the McCanns
96 Answers
Kate & Gerry McCann appeared at the Leveson Inquiry today to state that media coverage hindered the search for their missing daughter Madeleine. Lots of people go missing every day, and the cases that receive any publicity are greatly assisted by the media spreading the word. Madeleine's disappearance received global coverage, as a result of which only people in remote areas of the World will have been unaware of the case. That kind of free publicity is beyond anyone's wildest dreams. Sure, not all of it was positive, but that was largely because some of the McCanns' decisions were dubious at best. Strikes me the McCanns should show immense gratitude to the media rather than this horrible bitterness. What do you think?

It is an appalling event but not the core of what evidence/reasoning is being presented in the Leveson inquiry.

What do I think?
I think the likes of you and I.Don No (who was so ripped to shreds on a similar post some months ago) are heartless, truly horrible people.
These people have lost a child for christ's sake. That would eat away at me like a cancer.
I have every sympathy for the McCanns - my heart bleeds for them - and people like you and I.Don No sicken me.

I won't join in hating like fitflop, but wholeheartedly back the sentiment. Facts are, a child goes missing, the family being quite intelligent have used press help to try and find her, they have been vilified and badly treated in many parts of the press, and I recall some time ago someone on this forum posting about the mother's 'miserable face'. Shame on that poster.
Why is the OP selecting the McCanns out of all today's witnesses? What about the coke-toting, tottie-buying Steve Coogan? Hugh Grant? It seems small-minded, mean and nasty to focus your hate on a bereaved family.

Wow...I read through those threads. I cannot believe what spite and nastiness sits comfortably inside some people.
I can't believe anyone can say the press dealt with things well. What did they have to gain by printing stories that held no factual truth, based on hearsay and a incompetent Portuguese police enquiry. The only thing they achieved is swaying the sympathy of some feeble minded readers that rarely get past the headlines.
