Kate & Gerry McCann appeared at the Leveson Inquiry today to state that media coverage hindered the search for their missing daughter Madeleine. Lots of people go missing every day, and the cases that receive any publicity are greatly assisted by the media spreading the word. Madeleine's disappearance received global coverage, as a result of which only people in remote areas of the World will have been unaware of the case. That kind of free publicity is beyond anyone's wildest dreams. Sure, not all of it was positive, but that was largely because some of the McCanns' decisions were dubious at best. Strikes me the McCanns should show immense gratitude to the media rather than this horrible bitterness. What do you think?

i agree with you 100%
Didn't some sections of the media first portray them as victims and later as villains?
I'd still feel sorry for any family which had lost a young child in the circumstances they had.
Gerry McCann acknowledged the help he and Kate had received from the press and thanked them this afternoon at the Leverson Enquiry. I watched it on Sky.
So who's got the story right?
I am in complete agreement with you Chirpychirpy.
Here we go ANOTHER let's have a go at the McCann's thread. Same old same old.
They still have a missing child.
Wouldnt want to be standing in their shoes! long nightmare that never goes away
Well ladybirder heard one thing and the OP another so I'm confused.
Whatever was said I still have great sympathy with the McCanns, and putting aside the rights and wrongs regarding Maddie's disappearance I sincerely hope that none of their detractors ever finds themselves in a similar situation.
There but for the grace of god, go I.
they are probably just looking for someone to blame for her not being found alive and well...
I think the McCanns were more distressed at some of the headlines and reports of Madeleine's "death" than the level of coverage.

Telling the world that she was dead was damaging to the search.

I seriously think you have the wrong end of the stick.
Has chirpychirpy got an admirer.........

they have lost a child and may never know what happened to her, i cna;t imagine how horrible that must be
I don't think they are bitter in general about the media .. How can they be?
I think they are highlighting something that needs serious attention .. the circus the media can create when they report and print assumptions (like they did with Jefferies in the Bristol case) with no evidence.

The McCann's certainly have tenacity tho .. They have managed to go to great lengths .. worldwide in the search for their missing daughter ..

How far would YOU go?
So,chirpychirpy, you have felt sorry for the McCanns all this time, and today you no longer feel that way?If this is just an opportunity to have a cheap dig at the McCanns,I think you are being very mean imho!
Not horrible enough to keep peoples sympathy, obviously!!!
craft Gerry said thank you very early on when giving his evidence but then the enquiry questions moved into the area of press intrusion. But he did go back a couple of times and recognised the help him and Kate had been given. You could see he was trying to be fair.
well they have mine an d countless others, everyone is entitled to their op, perhaps reading the link about and actually digesting what the mcanns are saying would help!
