I am not convinced having the OP pick the best answer and for it to be displayed prominently is a good idea. They are likely to just pick an answer which mirrors their own opinions.
If you need something to accompany the advert, why not give everyone the ability to vote for an answer. Like your polls. Then, instead of a repeat of the OPs...
Yes. Look, the logic is: better (higher paying) ads placed prominently will get more clicks. This gives us more money to play with, this lets us buy a bigger, faster server - and the site runs more smoothly and everyone is happy! (-ish)
Ed- does the OP get a chance to change their mind over the best answer? What I mean is, if they mark a reply as B.A, can they later make another B.A if they consider that reply better than the first one?
I was beginning to wonder if I'd been somewhat hallucinogenic a month or so ago when I read a thread about who had been deemed the best ABer as a result of the most 'Mark as best answer' votes!
As there appears to be a requirement to have the site format changed every few months any news on the request to be taken automatically to the last answer of a thread that we were told was 'in progress' some months ago?

You weren't told it was "in progress" (as far as I remember!) but that it was "on the list" :) the list is different.
It's no problem to me, and if it generates some money to enable AB to keep going then well and good; it isn't a charity. But if Ed. you have dropped the 'Mark as best answer' on each post, could we have the posts numbered as was mooted recently. It really would often be helpful to know to which previous post someone was referring, particularly on the long threads.

You can click the "go to best answer" to see the individual post in context.
