Why should they demonstrate here?

Many condemn the EDL for protesting on our streets, (incidentally the recent Leicester one went off without any trouble), yet no one has so far condemned the Syrian protest that took place in London this weekend.

Why should our police be expected to put up with this violence shown towards them, from those who should not be in this country?

It seems that when it comes to the benefits they get from this country, they wish themselves as British, and yet when their politicians back home carry out acts that they disagree with they class themselves as Syrian but protest here on our streets.

If they feel so strongly about such matters, why don't they go back to Syria and protest there?

Well we all know the reason for that, they know what kind of treatment they would receive from their police and military if they did.

"I can understand the outrage against the Syrian government and, of course, its representative in London, the Syrian Embassy."

yup. says it all.
LOL at aog...bit sad when you have to copy answers that you like from elsewhere... you gonna mark yourself best answer too while you're at it?
Nice to see you on form this afternoon, AOG, advocating your hate of foreigners and sending them back to their homeland - and to death most likely under Bashaar al-Assad's thugs.

By the way, he has a wife born in London so nice to hear of ex-Brits condoning the thuggery.

Was Assad and Mrs A trained by the EDL?
The oppressive Assad regime has driven many decent Syrians abroad over many years. To describe them as 'cowardly' is puerile and disgraceful.

Some of them live peacefully in the UK. Demonstrating against the Syrian regime rep in the UK has put some of those in conflict with our police which is regrettable.

But clearly, going back to join the protests in Syria isn't a viable option for most of these people.

So if they followed Old Gits 'logic' their other option is to stay quiet - then the Assad regime can pretend no other Syrians are concerned and the unrest is just the work of a small number of 'terrorists' and 'foreign insurgents'.

Late News Flash: 1939 - Jewish refugees demonstrate outside German embassy in London. How very dare they!

You speak as though this is a bad/cynical reason for not going back. Which I've no doubt that you'll deny, but if you don't then I am at a loss as to why you'd call their migration 'cowardly'. Especially when you openly admitted to jackthehat that you have no idea what the circumstances of these people's migration even were. Still quite happy to call it 'cowardly', apparently.

God, you really are a disgrace sometimes.

You can tell an organisation has got a problem when it is headline news that none of its members have been arrested.

During WW2 there were many Frenchmen who joined the Free-French and then parachuted into France so as to take up the fight against their invaders, so why don't these 'brave' protesters do the same, rather than venting out their anger on our streets?

That is all that I am asking.
i imagine the spanish and australians feeel the same about the british pensioners living in their country and bleating on in protest marches about pension cuts in the uk.

would be a lot easier for them to come to london to protest.......
Why would Syrians want to parachute into France?

so you want the syrians to charter a plane fly into syrian airspace paracute out and start fighting?

just to be clear
actually fluffmeister, these free frenchmen were mostly north africans, and were by no stretch of the imagination deemed 'many'. aog's vision of pierre in his stripey jumper and onions round his neck screaming 'vive la france' and ramming his bicycle at the german front, is rather ... romanticised.
i'm just tryign to imagine the conversation at the plane hire shop
"During WW2 there were many Frenchmen who joined the Free-French and then parachuted into France so as to take up the fight against their invaders, so why don't these 'brave' protesters do the same"

I have to say I find the constant harking back to WW2 that always seems to be done in political debates rather tiresome, but nevertheless...

Bear in mind it's easy to say 'many' Frenchmen - most didn't. That does not mean that most Frenchmen were cowards, it just means that the small number who did take up arms were extraordinarily brave.

To extend the analogy to the present - yes, some Syrians are taking extraordinary risks and putting their lives on the line to fight the government at home. To imply that anybody who isn't doing so is a 'coward' is profoundly belittling toward that action, staggeringly ignorant, and extremely confused.

And no, don't you dare try to pretend that you're 'just asking' an innocent question. Your opening gambit was to describe these people as 'cowardly' for 'running away from Syria' while later admitting that you have absolutely no idea when they'd arrived, if they were even immigrants or what their background was. Meaning you had no evidence to base such a bold judgement on whatsoever. This is disgraceful. It should be obvious even to you how utterly stupid, prejudiced and pig-ignorant it is to say something like that. This is exactly why you make people angry, and this is exactly why people are reluctant to treat you with respect or cede you any credibility.

Had I used such remarks no doubt the ED would have intervened and told me to behave myself.

But he hasn't, so once again I am expected to take the abuse without any form of redress, ah well?
I've demonstrated exactly why I think that's an apt description of your argument, AOG. And I stand by the language I've used - I think it's perfectly appropriate for something so badly thought-out from someone who really ought to know better. If you want to consider an attack on a stupid argument 'abuse' or whine that you're being persecuted somehow then I've no sympathy for you.
