There have been many arguments for and against the need for gays to get 'married', but according to this gay MP homosexual marriage is just "pure politics", and they don't need to get married.

/// homosexuals had already won equal rights with the introduction of civil partnerships and had "never needed the word
'marriage' ". ///

"I think gayness should be another medical illness that requires treatment."

Well, I'm afraid the medical and psychiatric professions (y'know, the people who are actually qualified to make those judgements) disagree with you. So that's not really a valid opinion.
And the most homophobic comment on the thread goes to Rov.
And just how would you go about 'treating' us, rov?
With a bit of respect would be a good starting point!!
LoL.

I'm wondering if rov's treatment will involve electrodes?
Electric shock treatment. If that doesn't work, then prison!
Incidentally, AOG, seeing as you asked, the reason that there is a campaign involving bus banners etc. is to challenge people who still say things like "I think gayness should be another medical illness that requires treatment."
Yes kromo. Rov was probably a contributor to the site I was reading.
I can see a flaw there........I'd have to be sent to a male prison.

It would defeat the object to send me to a female prison! :D
"I think bigotry should be another medical illness that requires treatment." preferably by aversion therapy- you know you say something bigotted, we do something that makes you wish you hadn't ;-)
Feel this is another topic like "religion" where there will never be agreement on the subject. For or against, does it really matter in the end.
F FS He's in UTAH- 'nuff said:(
Yes Maggie, it jolly well does for those concerned and it won't make a blind bit of difference to your life.
It won't matter to you, maggie.......but it matters to me.

A god-botherer in Utah thinks he can re-align a persons sexuality by connecting them to God.....

It would be hysterical if it wasn't so darned depressing.
Rov - the American Psychological Association has run meta-analyses of attempted conversion therapies (including the methods of NARTH) and has found no conclusive evidence whatsoever that it works consistently or that it even needs doing at all.

Also, don't you think the 'spiritual' element in Dr. Byrd's programme is a little suspect? Doesn't it imply something of a religious agenda?
I can't believe anyone seriously thinks it's okay to treat being gay as if it's some sort of illness and disorder by claiming 'God' can ' heal' them. All I can say is , it's a fecking pity he doesn't heal some of the millions of people worldwide who are dying of cancer and aids instead:(
"Therefore be it resolved that the American Psychological Association affirms that same-sex sexual and romantic attractions, feelings, and behaviors are normal and positive variations of human sexuality regardless of sexual orientation identity;

[...]

Be it further resolved that the American Psychological Association concludes that there is insufficient evidence to support the use of psychological interventions to change sexual orientation;

Be it further resolved that the American Psychological Association encourages mental health professionals to avoid misrepresenting the efficacy of sexual orientation change efforts by promoting or promising change in sexual orientation when providing assistance to individuals distressed by their own or others’ sexual orientation;

Be it further resolved that the American Psychological Association concludes that the benefits reported by participants in sexual orientation change efforts can be gained through approaches that do not attempt to change sexual orientation;"
Perhaps rov read this and is feeling a little 'fragile'? LoL

Always makes me laugh that people seem to think if they can provide a link to one other person that thinks the same way as they do then that must prove the way they think is correct.
