And all he did was urge that Liverpool should follow the same rules as everyone else who competes in the Englush Premier League.

And he didnt urge that they follow the same rules (there are no rules of which you speak) - he just said no other club regardless of Premier League status chooses not to play on the anniversary of a disaster, and was wondering why Liverpool differ, and they shouldnt be made a special case.

Philltaz - yes Heysel was in late May. Premier League season ends midway. Im sure if Liverpool ever got back into CL final etc, and the date was the same, they would request a change

liverpool have been give special dispensation by the fa and uefa NOT to play on that date anyway so davies comments were pointless and he has made himself look an idiot and become a hate figure to some people so you could say he should have done some research before he opened his mouth..he has brought this on himself...death threats are over the top though but he should have realised what an emotive subject this is on merseyside...

the players and club do not just have a day off...and its not because they claim to be too grief stricken to play - its because they attend the memorial ceremony held at anfield or wherever its planned, and possibly other things too... they cannot attend if they are playing.

and also many liverpool fans are attending ceremonies all over the city too - so would not attend the matches

they dont hold memorials in the same level for heysel etc because that was considered an 'act of god' and doesnt hold the same anger and frustration HB does

Act of god? 14 people stood trial for involuntary manslaughter, all Liverpool fans.
This is in stark contrast to the victims of Hillsborough, who didn't die as a result of violence but as a result of policing system failures and, dare I say it, were crushed by their own fans.
The Juve fans were chased to their death as a result of violence from opposing 'fans', many of whom had convictions for football-related violence, so let's get things a little more in perspective if the two disasters are going to be mentioned in the same breath.

probably because all the fans that died were from the other team so nobody in liverpool lost close family...

perhaps its sheer numbers of people affected, and anger...

i think its anniversary does not go unmarked...but its not on the same scale

act of god just means the deaths were accidental - but for the flimsy and shoddy wall there would have been no deaths ... obviously but for the fans chasing them they wouldnt have leaned on it and it wouldnt have fallen, but thats not really the issue here... i am just explaining why people in liverpool still hold memorials ...because 96 extended families are still heartbroken and so too are thousands of friends...its a lot of people.

i would also add that many of the others hundreds and huindreds of liverpudlians who were there at the ground at the time are still haunted by it, some have never got over it, around 700 odd were also injured.

also haunted by it are people who watched on tv, not knowing if their loved ones were safe...

i knew one person who died - i was friends with his sister and was at school with him and though we werent especially close it is still quite sad time of year


i would also add that i think AD is just ignorant of all this, and the death threats and in fact any threats, are ridiculous and make the people issuing them much much worse that anything AD has done.

Why not have a memorial service before the game for the fans that actually go to matches. They could still have church services for the ones that never go.

the heysel fans were crushed by bricks, not other fans...

i dont know why they dont have memorials before the match - does it matter?
its what they want to do - and have done for 23 years - presumably its not that easy to have a long painful and emotional memorial ceremony and then concentrate on football 10 minutes later...
many fans would not want a quick thing just before a match, they want to have a proper service - as you would undoubtedly get some idiots from the other side shouting abuse and chanting - like some chant 'munich 58' etc...hardly a good way to start a game...for anyone

I've said this on another post. Hillsborough was a tragedy and it is right and proper that the victims never be forgotten.
However, a minutes silence would have been enough in my opinion.
Liverpudlians seem to enjoy having a monopoly on public grief and martyrdom.

i can assure you that people in liverpool dont enjoy anything about it... it is dreaded and a solemn time... and its just how they wish to do it and thats their right ... also it is not them who are choosing not to play - its the footballers...

i cannot understand why people have an issue here ... its just one day.

Scoucers will of course always be for scoucers and have no care for anyone else and if anything happens to them then it is the worst thing ever, afterall they are Gods gift arn't they?
