Should western entertainers respect the culture of country they are appearing in, and alter their performances so as not to offend?

Presumably the Indonesians who have bought tickets understand what they have bought into and will enjoy it
I'm not sure what it's got to do with anyone else
Indonesia is not totally muslim, nor are its muslims particularly 'fundamental' - I don't suppose Gaga will actually be breaking any Indonesian laws.

As I have said before, the Muslim faith is far more woven into daily life and culture than is the Chreistian faith. Their cultural practises with regard to dress codes may seem restrictive and archaic to our western eyes, but i firmly believe that appropriate respect for other cultures should be shown by visitors, including visiting musicians and artists.
Hello anotheoldgit in italics!
Many a rapper has been warned about inciting violence when they have come to this country to perform. Each country has its own values. A muslim in Turkey would not be the slightest worried about Lady Gaga's performance, but it probably wouldn't go down well with a muslim in Saudi Arabia.
Entertainers are paid to entertain. If they instead offend then they have failed. Lady Gaga (and everyone else) should modify their act to whatever place they want to make make money.
Yes - but it depends to a certain extent who's saying it. if it's some tiny extremist group that's not representative of the majority opinion declaring 'Lady Gaga must do so and so', they should be ignored. Otherwise you have accept you're a guest in a foreign country and stay away unless you're prepared to respect the prevailing culture.
Personally I wouldn't bother touring backward repressed places, but I guess there's a lot of money at stake.

she is known to wear provocative outfits, and so if they want her to be herself, and perform, then let her be. The people attending the concerts would know that, and i would assume not be offended if she wears skimpy, odd outfits. if would be different if she was parading down the street in next to nothing, that would be inappropriate, but at a concert she should be left to get on with it.
It's difficult to know how her act will be modified to be acceptable. All of the costumes dancing, songs - the whole thing's basically about sex, as are alot of these type of acts (Madonna, Britney etc.)
She'll probably have to stand alone on the stage, stock still in a Burkha, singing a special set comprised entirely of nursery rhymes.

No...she should not change her act one little bit.
Madonna took a stand back in 1989, when she was threatened with arrest unless she changed the way she performed 'Like A Virgin' during the 'Blonde Ambition' tour (it involved 'self pleasure' on a big velvet bed and hermaphrodites). she went on and performed the show as it was intended.
She WAS banned from playing in certain parts of Italy (the Vatican got involved), but still, she wouldn't change her show.
Re: Bernard Manning / Jim Davidson - I think the reason that people treat these two differently (as opposed to the equally horrific, but pant-wettingly funny Jim Jefferies) is because people a majority of people hate racists, and will treat them differently to normal people (Lady Gaga normal???)
As far as I know, Lady Gaga doesn't call people n*gger from the stage.
Also, she has never punched her wife in the face like Jim Davidson...and only the weakest of men hit women.

Why is it then that the same understanding wasn't extended to such comedians as the late Bernard Manning or even Jim Davidson
BM worked as much as he wanted to up to his death
JD is still active and although some people don't like him, as far as I know he hasn't been banned or expelled from the country

Bernard Manning and Jim Davidson: Did people not know what to expect of them? They played to packed houses of people who didn't mind the material.
Roy 'Chubby' Brown is not as well known, is not on TV, and has warning notices put outside the theatres he plays. He plays to packed houses too. But he understands that there's a high risk that people will buy tickets in ignorance and innocence concerning what his act contains; an exceptionally high risk when he's playing a theatre in Blackpool in Summer!
Lady Gaga falls into the well-known category; everyone knows what her act is; and is therefore exactly like Jim Davidson, at least in that. Don't she's a recovering alcoholic, or much like him otherwise.
