Yes it's agood idea.
I donate or recycle old clothes anyway without having to trek all the way into town, but I expect people will do it.

I never bin old clothes anyway. They either go to a charity shop or into a clothes bank. M&S are providing another place to take them, so that's good, but it's nothing radically new.

If they would give you some money off a new purchase for each scwhopped article that would be a new idea, and give you a reason to go into Marks as opposed to the Oxfam shop.

ir's in partnership with Oxfam, so it's not taking away from them, but as ludwig says, pretty much just another place to donate items

According to the video, 10,000 garments go to landfill every five minutes. M&S are working in conjunction with Oxfam and aim to re-sell, re-use, or re-cycle everything.

as i said in this thread my m and s is by a charity shop anyway. how often do you chuck away 1 bit of clothing anyway? i wouldn't want to take old clothes with me when i go out shopping anyway

I take all our unwanted stuff including clothes to our local Oxfam shop anyway.
I suppose its a good idea for some but I don't want to drag bags of old clothes up town just in case I may buy something in M&S.

Yes I am all in favour of clothes being recycled, ie to persons who would be grateful to accept them in this country.

But to wrapping around the excuse that it will cut landfill, is just a 'red herring' and with Joanna Lumley involved anyone can see these cast-offs are mainly bound for overseas.

what's up with sending clothes overseas? isn't oxfam an internatioal charity? even if they dont send the clothes, they will use the money for overseas projects

Ridiculous idea. If I am to throw out ex clothes it is because they are no longer wearable. Is the suggestion that everyone is a wasteral who slings out perfectly good clothing for no good reason ? If so they are all earning too much.

Before any of you anti-AOG go off on one about Johnny Foreign etc.you should first look into my response more logically.

We do our bit by the massive un-cappable overseas aid programme we all contribute to, plus the almost hourly TV appeals for donations we now experience.

On the other hand we see food parcels being made up for our own in need, so don't you think we should give these clothes to such national unfortunates as them?

Because it is a certainty if they can't afford food they are not likely to be able to afford decent clothing.

oxfam is an international charity AOG, any money they make from selling clothes to people in this country will go to overseas projects anyway
