Should certain re-enactment groups be banned?

It is obvious that asking a Jewish couple to act out the roll as Holocaust victims would be totally wrong, but should certain uniforms be banned in case they cause offence?

Why these re-enactment groups choose to dress up and take part in these re-enactments is yet another question, but I suppose they do attract audiences.

But ban one,and where does it end, ban the Sealed Knot lot, in case it offends certain Royalists or Puritans?

Ban re-enactments of the Battle of Waterloo in case it offends the French?

i would rather see someone walking around in a police uniform than a Nazi one, no matter the reason for wearing it. These people should know that it is offensive, and act accordingly, don't wear it. Prince Harry has come unstuck over this, and giving a Nazi salute as some knobheads do in these far right groups around the world, people like Anders Breivik, are asking for trouble.

i agree with some others - this is still recent history and still has people alive that remember it and its effects.

we dont abhor dressing as romans or celts or the cavalry etc etc as no-one remembers it...

i suppose it is a bit insensitive to walk up to a stranger and ask that... but i dont think it was done maliciously...more for visual 'realism' - but then it is a reenactment after all - and therefore its expected to see representatives from all noted figures of the time

it is just acting.
if you are sensitive about the events of the 2nd world war then dont attend an event aimed at recreating the look of it ...

em... this wasnt some cheap fancy dress shop outfit rented for a student party... its a reenactment!
it is meant to represent realism

dont attend if you dont want to see the outfits - you cant pick and choose the ones you like best.

yes mick. my point is these people werent trying to be controversial or cruel but add a sense of realism to the characters portrayed
