Amy Winehouse statue

It's being reported that attempts are being made to have a statue of Amy Winehouse at London music venue The Roundhouse. Do you think she made enough of a musical contribution to merit this? Or are your memories of her more dominated by her drink and drugs-fuelled lifestyle - ie. she was the very opposite of a good example to others - or do we simply put that down to an illness? One report I read states "The star's father Mitch, mother Janis and stepmother Jane hope bosses at the concert hall will allow the life-size sculpture to stand on the first-floor balcony next to the building's bar. They are adamant Winehouse, who died from alcohol poisoning last July, would appreciate a tribute at the venue as it is close to where she lived after shooting to fame." I can't help think this might be referring to the bar rather than her home nearby

I couldn't give a rats @rse if a talented artist had a drink/drug habit and I don't think this should have any bearing on their credibility.
To answer your question, yes I do think she made enough of a contribution to merit this.

Look at all the others with drink and drug habits. Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Jim Morrison, Elton John, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash....to name but a few.

Amy was the best of that lot sp IMO. Unique, so special and different, not mainstream thank goodness. A massive voice from such a tiny body. I think if we're gonna have a statue of Amy anywhere then the Roundhouse is the place.

not sure I'd have a 60ft Amy, arms out like the Angel of the North, in a field at Dover welcoming tourists, boxtops. But at the Roundhouse, yes, why not?

I think it woudl be good to celebrate her life and enormous talent, plus its in an appropriate place; not only close to her home but a suitable music venue.

Afterall nothing could be less appropriate than a Michael Jackson statue at Fulham football ground!

I'm not a big Amy fan, just not my type of music, but I did appreciate her talent. I can completely understand why work was/is revered.

Lets stop looking at people through rose coloured specs. the girl had it all and blew it, her family while cherishing her memory ought be ashamed about the way it all turned out, and perhaps in quiet moments accept that they must share the blame..
