Or are people simply giving Mr Clarkson a bit of his own medicine, humour-wise?

making jokes about the death of anyone be it human or animal is a low blow, sadly these types of incidents are all too common these days.
2Anyone in a donkey jacket? They're basically good and must have a plasma television immediately."

He still made me laugh.
Who really takes that sort of stupid nonsense seriously! its just typical Clarkson really.

Understand your point, but surely this is no more offensive than Mr Clarkson's comments that striking public sector workers should be put up against a wall and shot?

And announcing the death of a family pet on Twitter? Surely he would know that would get the trolls scurrying out of the woodwork (or perhaps more accurately, scurrying from underneath their bridges)?
a fair point sp, I agree that twitter is not the platform to announce personal news, he must have guessed that he is likely to receive some insensitive comments.
Of course he knew.

Clarkson, wrote: "A few moments ago , my dog died, and, as an experiment, I announced the fact on Twitter.

As RATTER says ... typical Clarkson.
well, it got him in the news, job done..
Did anyone who knows of Clarkson , or saw the programme, take offence at his 'shooting strikers' remark ? The protests seemed to be like those of people who complain about plays they've never seen.
"surely this is no more offensive than Mr Clarkson's comments that striking public sector workers should be put up against a wall and shot?"

You need to watch that whole interview not just the 'edited to make a news story' version.
He first said that he was really enjoying the strike as the roads were empty but this is the bbc so you need to give both sides of the story so he then gave that tongue-in-cheek comment.

If a celeb posts anything on Twitter the intelligencia will post negative comments.
Clarkson is a B******S...

I think he's great.
Neither, this is someone lashing out after being the victim of the trolling imbiciles. People are not giving Clarkson his own medicine, this isn't what HE does, he uses comic hyperbole, I doubt he'd stoop to trolling the bereaved.
in my experience....yes (mostly) x

The intelligencia?

Huh?
Long live JC and all that he says. God save us from political correctness and mediocrity.

But the trolls thatJC has complained about aren't being PC, are they???
I think Twitter is really stupid and wish it had never been invented, in fact its a good name for people who write personal things on there!
I like JK....

He's not a troll. He doesn't post to upset people. He doesn't target people and make posts, and user names, to solely upset people.
Celebrities have fans and detractors. If you court publicity and go on-line with personal stuff you open yourself up to all sorts of comments.

I've read an article which explains the importance of Twitter - basically, it's a portal for people (especially those in the public eye) to bypass the media to talk directly to the public. It's also a way of disseminating information via 'crowd-sourcing', and the media love it as a means of finding out which news items are 'trending'. Prior to Twitter, it was impossible for newspapers (especially the online versions) to understand what people were interested in.
Starbeast I think you have it right there.
Clarkson does it because he's paid to. The people who make those comments think they're being hilarious.
Just write them off as potential candidates for Darwin Awards. I do.
