They have 2 men in custody over the rape of the 14 yr old boy in Manchester. Why was this case kept out of the press for so long?(it happpened some weeks ago)Children were on school holidays and at risk, I would say, with the culprits on the loose. Now a few days after the C.C.T.V images we hear of an arrest.Such a shocking and disgusting crime. surely it deserved top priority in order to protect the children of Manchester.
Good point, although you have to consider that perhaps the lad and his parents may not initially have wanted any publicity? It's all very well looking at this from a dispassionate outsider's point of view, but we have to consider the humiliating, horrific and traumatic experience which this lad's been through?
It's more than possible that he has only started to come to terms with what happened and is now feeling brave enough to try to seek help?
Let's just hope that it's the actual culprits they have in custody?
I wonder if it had been a 14 year old girl instead of a 14 year old boy, and she had got pregnant as a result, whether Mr Todd Akin would classify it as not a "legitimate", i.e. real, rape ...
its a long walk from the toilets in the arndale to debanhams. walking through a crowded mall across a very busy road crossing then through busy debanhams up in a lift to to toilets in that store i cant understand why a 14 year old which are not little kids anymore didn't scream shout kick out o cause attention to his situation
these men will get their just sentence.a long one hopefully
Had this happened to a 14 year old girl in NI and she had got pregnant the next Health Minister here, Jim Wells of the DUP, is of the opinion that she shouldn't be allowed an abortion. It's better, he says, that the baby should be handed over for adoption.
The fact that this has only recently hit the public psyche doesn't mean that the Police weren't doing their best from the very outset to try to have the offenders identified from their own extensive records of offenders?
It seems now, though, that the two suspects in custody may have resulted from a tip off from Joe Public having had the mug shots made available. It seems reasonable to assume that someone might have recognised them?(Just a guess).
Officers spent two months working with the victim to build up a picture of what happened and waited for forensic results before deciding to issue a public appeal, Greater Manchester Police said.
As hinted above, I don't think this is a black and white case. The walk from where the pair met the lad is quite a long distance to Debenhams. It is probably one of the busiest spots in Manchester and many people would have been around. There is loads of CCTV around also. 14 year olds are not usually so vunerable to strangers. There seems to be a few strange things about this case, will have to see jow it pans out.
You cannot report every assault in the press. Plenty of children go missing each year, some are found quickly, others months later and some not at all.
I've read stories in my local paper over the years about children being raped, women being murdered by partners. Few of those have I seen in any national medium.
The press look for an angle when reporting stories. In this case, the police had no luck, the press latched onto the shop toilet angle and the guys are caught.
