Here we have yet another teenage killing, this time we see a 15 year old girl brutally kill a 16 year old girl with ' A HAIR COMB' which we are told are now a 'fashion accessories'?????????????

This murder was simply over a text message and boys, and now yet another two young lives have been destroyed, one forever, and the other will have this young death hanging over her for all her life.

/// Julie's family had moved to Britain in 2006 from Sierra Leone, where her father, Raouf, was a policeman. ///

/// He told the court in a statement: "I am left to wonder why I brought her here and if I hadn't, she would still be alive. ///

Is this the face of 2012 Britain, that we wish to show the rest of the World?

Tail combs or whatever they are called were supposedly a 'teenage weapon of choice' when i was a kid 40 years ago so nothing new there.

'The face of 2012 Britain' is a subjective concept and could be a 1001 other things, all of which would be more frequently occurring - and therefore more representative - than teenage girls killing each other.
Whilst im not making light of the incident, is it any stranger than some of these murder weapons used?

I must have led a very sheltered life or have moved in much different circles than apparently you have been used to.

If they have indeed been in use as a 'teenage weapon of choice' for all that time, it is a wonder that you don't now have to be over 21 to purchase one.
What is it coming to indeed....

Yep, I remember steel afro combs 30 odd years ago being sharpened by youths to use as weapons.
AOG, I definitely remember the steel afro picks being banned in schools and many shops only sold the plastic ones which were good for nothing - not even combing hair.
The police certainly confiscated sharpened combs / picks.

/// The number of homicides rose from around 300 per year in the 1960s to just under 1,000 a decade ago, the figures showed.///

And homicides (murders) don't take into account manslaughters which many now get charged with.
Your point was "What Is Britain Coming To?"

Not, what was Britain a decade ago. T

odays homicide rates are about on a par with those in the 40s, 50s, and 60's, with some years in those "good ole times" being higher than they are now.
Oh and homicide includes manslaughter.

"Murder and manslaughter are two of the offences that constitute homicide."

/// They quit using combs with meal teeth because there were rumors
stating they were used as weapons. Schools banned them, while
stores stopped selling them. Afro picks were quickly being forced out
of popular culture due to fear, ignorance, and really bad fashion sense. ///

Taken from your first link Chuck.

/// Final figures, including a breakdown of the numbers of murders, manslaughters and infanticides, will not be available until January.///
Mary Bell was 11 when she strangled to death two small boys - just for the pleasure of it, in the 1960s.
<Is this the face of 2012 Britain, that we wish to show the rest of the World? >

I preferred the 'faces we showed' in the 50s and 60s

That Christie bloke and Myra Hindley were such attractive specimens and a credit to this country.
at least Christie was hanged, and that was in the 1950's, as to Myra Hindley, dupe of that odious Brady, she died in prison and so will he.

<at least Christie was hanged>

Not the best advert for capitol punishment, bearing in mind the state killed Timothy Evans first!
I should know by now that facts and statistics are always bettered by rose tinted glasses.
"What is Britain Coming To?"

Nothing it hasn't been "coming to" for many a long year. Try googling 'Glasgow razor gangs' and you'll find out what I mean.

agree, that is why they won't bring back the death penalty. They could perhaps as i'm sure there are much better methods of detection, DNA these days. Isn't this more a EU directive by the way, abolishing the death penalty right across Europe. Sure that i read that recently.
