Why are we not allowed to defend ourselves in our own homes?

Irrelevant ummmm but yes I have. That doesn't give me the right to gun people down.
I don't like the gung-ho attitude and I never will.
Actually... for shotguns there is no legal requirement for them to be in a cabinet... you can just lock them to something with a cable and that would be fine.
Locked though right?
Not instantly available, like propped at the kitchen door?
If this is still legal then something is very wrong.
Well chuck has just dismissed your locked cabinet theory.

Are you seriously telling me that if you thought your childrens lives were in danger you wouldn't shoot if you had a gun near by?
if burglars know they can be legally shot, they might become accountants instead... or, they might just go about their trade armed. I'm not sure that would be a good development.
Do you think farmers all stick to the rules?
I don`t know any farmers that lock their guns away. I don`t know farmers who have had anyone come around to check up on that either. They just put them somewhere where they can grab them quickly when they see a fox about to devour their livestock.
Mojo - I too hate the use of guns, both for killing humans and animals. But I also hate this society which is being taken over by criminals laughing at the soft judges who pat them on the head and let them off with light sentences. Someone has to get tough with them and they need to be taught a lesson.
Not that I'd break into anywhere, but if I was going to break into somewhere, I wouldn't make it a farmhouse! Farmers are more likely to have guns than the average citizen, and any robber should know that. Given that the robbers knew that, the farmer might reasonably expect that the robbers could also be armed ...
society being taken over by criminals? Only the ones who run banks.
As I said before, we live in a peaceful safe area but if we lived a few miles away in Nottingham or Birmingham, there is such a lot of gun crime and they know they can get away with it .............
Farmers breaking the rules are no better than the burglars. Can't you see that?
No I wouldn't ever take a gun to someone ummmm, but you are being overly dramatic. It's highly unlikely that I would ever need to go to those lengths.
If this was one of those rare occasions, then fair enough, but I still want to know how he managed to legally just grab, load and fire a shotgun effectively twice without breaking the law.
"Farmers breaking the rules are no better than the burglars."

You are having a laugh now, right?

Also, I know several people with shotguns and it's not uncommon for them to be stored in bed rooms, partly because it's better (more secure and less unsightly) to keep them upstairs, partly because bedrooms often have chimney breasts to secure the gun cabinet to and partly so they are easily accessible at night if needed.
You live with your spouse in the middle of nowhere. Four men, aged 27, 23, 31 and 33 break into your house. Are these not exceptional circumstances?
Your MP is missing the point.
Hoe did he do this legally?
That is why he's been arrested and that should be the crux of the inquiry.
^ not sure if trolling now.
No Chuck I'm not.
Remember Hungerford? Dunblane?
They were the reason for the rules and they are good rules. No fox is worth a passing child picking up that gun, and I speak from experience.
No gun should be outside a cabinet and no gun should be pre-loaded.
A gun should not be an available deterrent to burglary in this country.
Maybe we should wait until further details emerge before judging?
//No fox is worth a passing child picking up that gun, and I speak from experience//
Dare I kindly suggest then Mojo that this is why you are so strongly on the side of the burglars?
