Can someone explain why writing a blank cheque to EU basket cases to spend spend spend suddenly increases confidence?

The alternative is to chuck them out the Euro. And that would not go down well with our EU philes would it? plus once one goes it will be like dominioes

They will do anything to save their beloved Euro and the Germans are still hell bent on ruling Europe. Just not using tanks these days.
