Duncer,
Aye, right! That's like saying Old Tom Morrish and his son are two of the greatest golfers ever for each winning 4 Open Championships in the 1860s/70s? Would either have beaten Tiger Woods?
Or Bobby Jones, also a golfer, for having won majors as an amateur in the 1920s? Would he have beaten Jack Nicklaus?
OR Sir Gordon Richards for being champion jockey in the 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s? If you owned a racehorse would you prefer him as your jockey instead of Piggott or Dettori?
There are loads of other examples, and it all boils down to personal preference. You simply cannot compare today's superstars with those of yesteryear for all sorts of reasons, no matter how many tournaments/cups/matches they won?
There is a mega difference in kit and equipment as well, plus how can we gauge the true merit of Perry or some of the above I've mentioned, simply because we didn't have the awesome benefits in years gone by of banks of televisions covering every angle of every tournament.
I know who my money would be on, though, between a Perry at the same age as Murray is just now - 25 - no contest as young Andrew sails through in straight sets!
