He was out of order. She should get her driving license taken off her. Not all old people are nice - maybe she did hit him first. Stranger things have happened. :-)

why would he need to be driving at speed in a residential area at any rate.

Bearing in mind none of us know the actual facts of what occurred.....

I'm not sure I see the need for a custodial sentence and I do think the female driver needs to have her ability to drive safely scrutinised.

Yes he was out of order no matter how provoked he was, but yes I can understand his frustration at being having made to pootle along at 5mph!

most of our residential streets are now 20mph zones, with endless road traffic calming humps, if she was doing 5mph then it's not surprising really.

It's inexcuseable for any man to hit an 81 year old lady whatever the provocation. True she might well be a nasty bit of work, some old dears are indeed a challenge to speak to, she might have hit him first ( although I question how hard that possibly be) and she might have been driving like a snail ( maybe there were 'sleeping policemen) but he had no excuse to hit an 81 year old lady. Any right minded person knows that and as such one can only consider that he is out of control and thus fairly dangerous to the public when things don't go his way.

I don't care how slow she was driving, it was no reason to hit an 81 year old woman - my Mum's age. I'd hunt him down if it had been my Mum. Coward !!!

I have an aunt aged 83, if it had been her then I doubt if it would get to court !

woofgang, it would as he would see what elderly, dementia patients go through and if a hospice he can do the donkey work, cleaning, washing up, etc, it might give him a sense of shame at his irrational behaviour.

Sorry to disappoint anyone calling for this guy to be convicted of the likes of GBH, although to be fair, it is claimed that the old dear sustained 'serious facial injuries'.

Nevertheless, the fact that it was seen fit to try the case in magistrates court brings certain limitations to it in terms of sentencing powers. So you may well find that even were a custodial sentence felt appropriate, the offender would be sentenced to no more than 6 months - if that?
