I wonder if the teacher who absonded to france with his underage girlfriend will be treated so leniently?

Guilty to sexual activity with child.
Guilty to sexual activity with his 17 year old brother.
Guilty of becoming pregnant with one or the other.
Guilty of having an abortion at the NHS expense..
Guilty of supplying cannabis and possession of the drug.
Guilty of sending indecent pictures and text messages to a child.

The sentence:

Nine-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and she must also sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for ten years.

I tend to agree with the boy's father when he said,

/// He said: 'If it had been the other way around and this was a man having sex with a 15-year-old girl, he would have been locked up, without a shadow of a doubt. But, because she is a woman, she has walked free" ///

Nothing new there then.
No comparison between the two. This woman was not the boys' teacher and did not take them abroad.
"Guilty of having an abortion at the NHS expense"

As far as I'm aware, this isn't a crime.

(The rest of it is, though.)

And I agree with hc4361.
This man got a 14 year old girl pregnant and was not sent to prison.

Nor this man who had sex with a 13 year old

Or this man for sex with an under 13 year old

This isn't a crime either.
Yet another man who had sex with an underage girl escapes prison

There are many, many examples
I don't think having an abortion or having sex with a 17 year old is illegal, so nothing to be guilty of there then.

I expect her being a mother of three is the reason she did not go to prison. Plenty of men get off this sort of charge though, plenty. It just happens so much more frequently that its only worth reporting in the news when its a teacher, doctor or police officer. I'm not condoning either, I think its disgraceful to find even a 17 year old attractive when you are in your 30s. I certainly dont think 16 year old lads are fair game. However, I dont feel that there is a massive injustice when it comes to how men and women are treated.
This "child" was 15

Generally consential sex with 15 year olds is not seen as in the public interest to prosecute.

I imagine that it was the drugs connection and the apparently predatory behaviour that convinced the CPS that it was appropriate in this case

Last time I checked getting pregnant or having sex with a 17 year old definately wasn't illegal either.

Mulling over whether signing the sex offenders register was approprite or not - probably was if the behaviour was as predatory as the story makes out.

I'm not surprised the father is outraged - fathers often are in such circumstances - the courts usually rather disagree around this age.

There's no magic that suddenly happens at a 16th Birthday that suddenly makes something fair game on that day and a hanging offense the night before and the legal system tries to cope with that as best it can
Guilty of having sex with a 17 year old? That's not a crime.
Not aware that the teacher who went off to France with the girl has been found guilty of having sex with he. Or maybe you know something I don't?
So Jake, are you saying that the guy that just got back from absconding with a 15 year old school girl won't be prosecuted?

Who said they were crimes or illegal, I was merely pointing out that she were guilty of doing such things.

One can be guilty of reading certain newspapers, but it isn't yet illegal or a crime, thank goodness.

Perhaps some would care to refer to their dictionary before making certain criticisms.
I am guilty of responding to AOG's post.

Goodsoulette is guilty of entertaining working/white/male/British hard done by, I've not got it as good as the unemployed/muslim/women syndrome .....again. I've actually missed the answerbank, at least the news section remains untouched and has stayed the same. Really ......exactly the same,

I was expecting the nation to be ruled by sharia law by the time you got back, Goodsoulette. I'm deeply disappointed it hasn't happened on schedule.
Go figure jno, I am however letting the spare sitting room to a family of 19 eastern europeans.
<Who said they were crimes or illegal>

That is disingenuous.

When you write a list: < Guilty of .... Guilty of .... etc>

Mixing together identical references to actions that are illegal with others that aren't you are clearly trying to blur any distinctions.

I keep telling you to get a job with one of the tabloids - they love that sort of language distortion and 'sleight of mouth'
to answer the question: yes, it looks as if a man would have got off as lightly. I wouldn't personally have objected if she'd been locked up, but I suspect that would simply have punished her own family.
