Tonight's BBC news re US election.
Did I hear an elderly Florida resident say that Romney "had more class" than Obama?
If she did, what a stuck-up old m@re.

You did hear correctly, annemollie.

She said that Romney was better qualified,had more experience and more class ;)

Not sure if she meant it in the way the word is commonly used in the UK, or whether she simply meant that she thought Romney had more elan....

So I wasn't hearing things.
As the woman was in Florida, the probability of her using the UK meaning is likely somewhere near zero.

class: "the quality of bearing oneself with dignity, grace, and social adeptness." Arguable, but she's entitled to her opinion.

I personally don't see a problem in using such a phrase. Some might consider it stuck-up but doesn't warrant the old mare bit.
