Did I hear correctly ? Are we, the tax payers, paying subsidies to our European farmers to grow tobacco ?

If we are --are we going mad ?

We pay subsidies to EU farmers to grow a lot of things. Regardless of what it is they're growing with the subsidies they get, certain countries are getting too much!
Yes, Yes and err YES
not going, gone, looong gone
It's simple ecomomics, the more tobacco the farmers grow the more money they can potentially make in tax when the product is sold in this country. The government makes billions a year on tobacco duty and understandably they want to insure that revenue of that magnitude doesn't disappear.
