What is the reason for this?

So 79% of teachers claim that pupils turn up hungry, I note that 'hungry' was not defined and as kids are always hungry (having had four myself I am a pretty good authority) what does this actually mean?

2/3 of teachers in the teachers survey reckon it's down to lack of care (busy trying to get to work?, not bothering because the child 'accessory' is now becoming a pain perhaps? )

Hardly surprising from a bunch of left wingers 57% blamed lack of money. This I am very doubtful about. I wonder how many of these parents pitch up to the school fag in hand? Food does not have to be expensive(so long as you are not trying to fed your family from the takeaway or ready meals).

So, fellow ABers, what are your thoughts?

Triggerhippy -yes I concede this was an exaggeration to prove a point . Try walking around a council estate in winter when the front rooms are lit up by their 60 inch TV screens. Not saying anything wrong with that -but sticking to my point no one is too poor these days to buy their kids food -some decide credit on their phone is more important.

Ummm -if you are working and have two kids and are making £1000 a month you will receive in excess of £600 per month in Working Tax credits. If you can't manage to buy your kids food on this amount given to you by the government then you should go buy a smaller house or make some cuts in your budget

Ummm -tax credits can pay for what you like -you could use them to pay for your weekly sunbeds if you wanted ;-). I think I can understand the point you are getting at -that sometimes things happen to plunge your income drastically so you look on the outside to be reasonably well off but have no disposable income - but there are procedures in place (getting a sabbatical on your mortgage repayments) or housing benefit - so sorry but stand by my comments that no one is that poor these days they can't buy food for their kids x
