How cowardly and despicable. But then no surprise given the lefty liberal sentencing in this country.
I have a question for the many liberal hand wringers on this site, Do you really think your soft justice ideas are right when you see this sort of thing?

You know what - you're right. I've always been a fan of soft sentences for criminal behaviour, and fully supported the Labour government in its move away from punishment, towards short sentences followed up by holidays in the Carribbean for rapists and murderers.
I, like many other lefty liberal handwringers also support the installation of X-Boxes, flat screen tellies and hot and cold running prostitutes in jails all over the country.
Now I realise that our lefty liberal handwringingness has left the country in ruins, and I am totally ashamed.
I'm going off to Nepal now to live the rest of my life...as a goat

I blame all those clearly leftish judges... What next happysac in the court room, judge providing herbal tea and Indian head massage for the accused. I tell you its not on! I advocate the short sharp shock method, and what could be more short and shocking than if this scum had their legs cut off. Lets see how that learns them, actually we should do this in the town square to send a clear message. A message in this case is definately needed, I say we gather some undesirables and execute them on the steps of the justice centre, we should then organise a competition where the children from each district have to put their children forward in a televised game where they are forced to fight to the death. This would ensure a clear message is sent and understood.
I am certain that I am one of the 'liberal hand-wringers' to which you refer, and yes, of course my soft justice ideas are right.
Don't you know that some people have difficult childhoods which can lead to this sort of annoying behaviour as adults.
I am sure this man must have been waving his cash about, so really, you could say that he asked for what he got. People should be more careful.
So - what exactly is your problem?

The main thing that deters criminals is the certainty of being caught. While burglars think the chances of being caught are slight we'll have lots of burglaries and the same applies to street crime like this. The punishment is irrelvant if you think the chances of suffering it are remote; that's the psychology in the oft- cited example of pickpockets who worked the crowd at public hangings of , among others, pickpockets.
But why, in any event, do you think that these robbers will get 'soft justice' ?Have you seen the guidelines for sentencing for robbery with a bladed weapon?

Sheep stealing was once a capital offence but it still took place. Oddly enough it isn't and doesn't these days
So you really think that sheep stealing doesn't take place these days, do you?

/// NFU Mutual estimates more than 60,000 sheep could have been stolen in the UK in the first 10 months of the year. ///
Seems like banning hanging hasn't really worked, has it?
