How cowardly and despicable. But then no surprise given the lefty liberal sentencing in this country.
I have a question for the many liberal hand wringers on this site, Do you really think your soft justice ideas are right when you see this sort of thing?
From my "lefty liberal" perspective the most important thing is proportion.
Sentences for such a crime should reflect the vulnerability of the victim - definately but not overtake those where serious injury was inflicted nor those overtake those where permanent disability was caused and the in turn not overtake where someone was killed by recklessness or design.
The other really important thing is that we don't let judges become influenced by emotive stories in the media.
Tell me if I'm wrong but I think this is where you and I fundamentally part ways.
I think you would like sentences to reflect the degree of public feeling being expressed for a particular individual crime.
- is that fair?
To me we should resist this at all costs because that places criminal justice in the hands of people like Rupert Murdoch's media and the amount of sympathy or outrage his editors can drum up.
use (overuse) was one of the ways used to describe the useage of the term
"because at least those words have a clear definition
leftie hand wringer etc is just meaningless name-calling used in the absence of intelligent ideas or arguments "
oh dear...i've got a shovel i no longer use, perhaps youd like it do dig yourself out of the hole you seem to be stuck in....still , as long as it doesnt get any deeper , eh !
Thanks ummm - yes, it is sarcasm. Subtle? i thought it was about as subtle as a fight at closing time!
Oh, and by the way youngmafbog, I am only helping out the liberal hand-wringers because they are busy - I am a paid up tree-hugging lentil-steamer - please don't ignore us as well, oh, and the yoghurt knitters will be along in a minute, so best give them a mention while you are there.
I'd just love a new term to be created. 'Lefty liberal hand-wringer' is so old hat now. Its like 'yoghurt-knitter' and 'tree-hugger'. They've lost whatever satirical edge they had through overuse...
Like when people use the word '...not' at the end of a sentence to negate it, without realising that it was last amusing when used in 'Wayne's World'...which was out twenty years ago.
A mate of mine calls me a 'gliberal' (glib + liberal), which I thoroughly like.
