Just also noticed on ebay that some peoples auctions are being bid up to ridiculous amounts, ie 50k, 1million etc. Obviously with no intention to buy tickets, just simply to stop people selling them!

That is sooo wrong. I hate it when people make money out of something charitable. Like the charity bracelets which are also being sold on Ebay.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with it at all.  If person A has a ticket to something and wants to sell it, and person B wants to buy that ticket, there is a perfect opportunity for a mutually beneficial sale to be made.  It does not in any way harm the poor people in Africa.  I find it outrageous, immoral and disgusting that Bob Geldof described such sales as outrageous, immoral and disgusting.  I find it contemptible that eBay capitulated to his vainglorious and bombastic demands that they should curtail their legitimate free-market activities.

When combined with Geldof's demand for one million people to converge on Edinburgh, and his ludicrous suggestion for thousands of boats to cross the channel in the spirit of Dunkirk, this latest incident has made me lose virtually all respect for the man.  He is a popinjay and a lickspittle of the self-perpetuating celebrity elite, a hierarchicalistic nincompoop, a vainglorious and bombastic dandy, a fool, a nankerous booliak, a [continued on page 8537]

MUST remember that one for the next time I'm in an argument: Get out of here, you popinjay and a lickspittle. Just no reply to that one.
I'm with bernardo on this one. So much pompous guff has been spouted about this issue, I can't believe Sir Bob and his cohorts didn't anticipate this would happen. My first thought when the method of getting tickets was announced was they'd appear on ebay. It's not as if the touts will be able to get hold of them in large numbers , it's just some individuals wanting to make a few bucks and maybe passing at least some of it on to charity. I thought it wasn't about making money but raising awareness?
The biggest thing is of course that Ebay got another 15 minutes of free publicity, which is what they thrive on. I saw the UK Manager on telly: "Basically, we were just responding to the views of our UK user base, who run the site more than we do." Yeah righhhhhht..
and in fact now im in a pickle!  i got a text today saying id got 2 tickets, but i didnt enter to win, i entered to give my 1.50,  I idint for a second think id get them.  I dont want to go - noone i know wants to go aarrgghh normally i would sell them on ebay but now i cant.  Pants!

Kazza, can i make you an offer for the tickets? I cant go myself, but i do have a colleague at work who entered 50 times on his phone but hasn't had any luck yet!! He is has already said he would donate a sum to anyone or anything to get his hands on a pair. He even offered me 1.50 to try texting from my phone! Told him not to bother as i was texting anyway and he could have the tickets if successful. Cheers

I agree with the chap that thinks Bob is a lickspittle or whatever he referred to the Geldof man as!

Our personal liberties have been curtailed by his high handed approach at turning the innocent sale of tickets (basics of demand and supply) into some immoral wrong!

I have 2 tickets that i am willing to sell if anyone want them (the price has got to be good though)

:-)

I too agree with Bernado. Too many do-goders and saints steering the population. Also, will the officials, sub-organisers, councils, vendors etc. all concerned with the event come away out of pocket? I don't think so. Any person owning a legaly obtained commodity surley has the right to dispose of it as he/she pleases.

Hi all (first post here!)

I've just won 2 tickets to the Edinburgh concert at Murrayfield, on the 6th july...though I can't make it now.

I'm trying to find somewhere locally for Scotland so that I can arrange for the tickets to go to someone else (I live in South UK y'see) Does anyone know of a website or contact for a local newspaper up there that might be able to send them on? Or if anybody is after them please e-mail me

Cheers!

To Bernardo and all the other cynics out there - leave Bob Geldof alone. At least he is doing something. Anyway, why don't you focus on the people who are dying not the celebs, they are just front people for a good cause. It doesn't matter why the celebs are doing the live8 concerts, it just matters that they are! Stop bitching and let them get on with it.
