An Italian court delivered the verdict on Friday against the former Italian leader and 10 others in a six-year-old tax fraud trial. He's also been barred from holding political office for five years.

In Italy, cases must pass two levels of appeal before the verdicts are final. Berlusconi is expected to appeal.

As the statute of limitations for this "crime" runs out in the New Year, I personally wouldn't hold my breath, waiting for the photos of the prisoner formally known as Silvio Berlusconi being broadcast on RAI 1/2, or Sky Italia.

Nine years as Prime Minister of Italy......longest serving Italian post war PM, so the public liked him.

As he'd be over the age of 75 years, and it's a "white collar" crime, then under the Italian Justice System, he will not be incarcerated for this crime, but he may have an issue with the underage sex trial - which is still ongoing.

Very much despite myself I find that I rather like any premier that is so gauche as to describe Angela Merkel as an ' unfeckable lard arse' and suggest that other nations invest in Italy because ' we have the most beautiful secretaries'. you can never really tire of a leader that downright amusing.
