Is this an admission that there are no good bankers in the City of London?

I would say the city of London is full of 'Bankers' -now they've got a Canadian 'Banker' and believe me -they take 'Banking to a new level ;-)
I think it simply means that the person judged to be the best candidate was not British. I just hope it works out.
I was under the impression the City of London was home to some first class Merchant Bankers!
Those bloody Colonials will take over one day; you mark my words. It's a complete shambles, wot:)
Maybe he went to Eton...
lol stewey :0)

Could do with you as Prime Minister here, mate.....the one we have is a Finance Specialist.
A colonial is by definition not a foreigner.
They are in my book sir: the English are the English, and the other lot are bloody foreigners. That's it, by Jove. Now carry on as you were.
Can I just add it was both an honour and a privilege to be underneath ladyalex, albeit just for a brief moment. :0) xx...what a minx.
Yogi, I am currently unavailable to assist you in the situation which you previously stated. I am chairing a meeting as to how we can rid the Colony of those poutine-eating Frenchies. The meeting is at the bar...Cheers:)
Cheers.....mine's a half lager thanks stewey, and yes....I agree about the frenchies, but keep it on the QT eh? lol
I suspect the idea is to bring new blood and new ideas, particularly with views on Europe.

These days banking is International, makes very little difference where you do it.

Whatever the case, lets hope he succeeds for all our sakes.
The Canadian Banking system was the only one in the G7 not to need bailing out partly down to the controls of the Canadian Central Bank headed by Mark Carney so maybe he can kick London's complacent bankers up the back end.
Andrew Bonar Law was a Canadian who was our PM once. Nothing wrong with colonials coming back to help if they can.
Really Fitzer?

The bank of Canada does *not* directly oversee the banks

That is done by the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions.

So I don't think he can claim too much credit for that
You haven't said HIS name but I gather whatever he does will profit an Islamic country. They all do, and they know it................
Did the Canadian banking system not go for deregulation? Is that how they managed not to come a cropper?
Jtp, I'm quite sure that you are claiming for your several wives. Bigamy is illegal in this country.l But not for your coulture. Why?
I'd agree with factor30 on this - it appears this guy is considered a shrewd operator who favours safe and protected personal banking over the sort of poker-playing mentality that has got the world ecconomy into such trouble.

On that basis, he seems like a good choice, but obviously we will have to wait and see.
SirAlec- are you sure your posts are appearing on the right thread here? I don't see anything else on here about Islam or bigamy
