What's wrong with our politicans

Nadine Dorries goes on a reality show, she would be better off staying put in the House of Commons, that's reality enough surely. Cameron looks increasingly marginalised, and out of step, as to Clegg what on earth is he doing these days. There is not one of them that has any gravitas, or common sense. Come the next election i am thinking of voting for the monster raving loony party, not sure they still exist but if so my x is for them.

But to get back on thread, isn't it amazing when all around us there are many 'ordinary folk' losing their jobs, but we never see a reduction in politicians?

Their numbers could be cut by 50% without any noticeable difference.

Must be rose-tinted glasses on my part. The last time I was in hospital was when I was about nine years old (broken arm).

So I'm judging today's NHS with standards that were in place when Suzi Quatro was still in the charts.

Don't know about Walpole, Pitt, or Disraeli, but I totally agree with you regarding Churchill, the best in my time anyway, still cannot understand how he got replaced by Clement Attlee after WW2.

because the country didn't need a war leader, a great man, great politician, but the country was virtually dead and it needed a fresh regime to rebuild.

I read through yours though, Em, and 8/10 for effort and all, but I could only agree with about 1 or 2 of your 10 points, so I don't think I could promise you my vote.

I would agree that there does seem to have been a reduction in politicians of character, and far too many politicians are politicians for life, leaving uni to act as a researcher, then parachuted into a safe seat when it is felt they are ready. That system generates anodyne clones who rarely if ever disagree with the party line.

We could do with a more diverse political representation, but given our current voting system and the hold that the 2 major parties have on the electorate, it is next to impossible for small parties or independents to shine.

There are 50 or so doctors I think for example, who will be standing in 50 seats on a platform of support for the NHS, and another initiative called Democracy 2015 which is broadchurch and full of good intentions - but they fielded a candidate at the Corby by election and managed to poll just 34 votes...
