The answer would be a definite 'NO', had the remarks been deemed racist, the members of the crowd who issued these remarks would have not only been removed from the proceedings but would have also faced a charge of racism.

But seriously back to the original question...I seriously think this chap was treated unfairly and that the organisers took the easy option.
As to the hypothetical situation put forward by AOG, surely it would have to be specifically racist abuse which would result in further action? If a black or Muslim member of the crowd walked in with an eye patch and everyone started making pirate jokes and/or shouting 'Pieces of eight, pieces of eight' - that would be the equivalent of this story.
However, that would be a world away from the crowd shouting (say) "Who let the n***** in" etc etc.
One is generated from jokey bravado, whereas the other is genuinely threatening.

/// There weren't that many landlords who put up NO PETS, NO DOG, NO JESUS LOOKALIKES ///
/// Perhaps this gentleman should've taken the route that Lorraine Pascale took a few weeks ago, and laughed it off? ///
Oh so just because this fellow had not been refused entry by some fictional landlord, way back in distant days gone by.
He should just laugh it off should he?
Perhaps that would be the wise thing to do, if others had learnt by now, to do likewise.

He's from Australia!
Why are all these people over here stealing our opportunities for righteous indignation
There are loads of indigenous Brits who have long hair and beards who would have loved the chance to be shouted at then expelled from the venue.
Some of them would even have their own sandals and done a much better job of being appalled and outraged at their treatment

//Jim Bowen would never stand for this if it happened during a recording of bullseye //
Aaah - Jim Bowen the best compere around .
When he asked one of the contestants something about his family - he told him that his father was ill or had passed away ( something like that ).
Jim Bowens reply - ' super smashing great '

Point of order (and I hate contradicting you, because you post some very amusing comments)...but...
Jim Bowen never actually said "Super smashing great".
Seriously - it was impressionists in the 80s who started saying that. Jim is entirely innocent!
It's just like in The Godfather - Vito Corleone never actually says, "I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse".

Oh yes I can instantly see why this gentleman being white, blonde haired and ginger bearded would be the doppleganger of a two thousand and twelve year old Arab of dubious existence. :-/
Still it gives AOG something else to get his union flag y-fronts in a knot about so the daily fail editor can sleep easy tonight.

AOG - "He could have been the typical Middle Eastern Muslim with say, long hair, beard and darkish skin.
What if the crowd had then harassed him by shouting Jesus, would he have accepted being escorted from the proceedings, or would he have played the race card?"
but the point is, he wasn't was he? In fact he looked like the standard European image of Jesus - a fair-haired man with long hair and a beard - as personified by Robert Powell in the TV series.
If he had been dark-skinned, no-one would have given him a second glance - it's his colouring that lends the resemblence that the crowd picked up, which led to the event.
So if he had been dark haired and / or skinned, the incident would not have occured, so i repeat, your projection is flawed in my view.

He should be offended because it's not normal behaviour to yell anything at anyone you don't know.
The man was 100% blameless and I hope he sues the a7se off the miserable excuses because he paid to view something, did nothing wrong and instead of halting the tournament until order was restored they took the easy option of persecuting the innocent party.
Nothing to do with race to answer AOG, just bloody idiotic behaviour on the part of the organisers.
