Oh and Springbulb, I think that the families are hoping that they won't be going over old ground, rather that the police will this time give true statements rather than falsified ones, and that they will find the truth about their loved ones death and if they could have been saved.
It's probably also a coincidence that police officers and ambulance crews were coerced to alter their accounts after the event
Nothing to do with covering up any failings
And btw
none of the enquiries have found evidence that loss of life outside the ground would have resulted from not opening the gates - what made the situation facilitated by the police so deadly was that those 'pushing at the back' had no way of appreciating the effect way down on the terraces.
zeuhl....'none of the enquiries have found evidence that loss of life outside the ground would have resulted from not opening the gates'
That's a hypothetical question that no one will ever know the answer to because the gate was opened. If you read Hillsborough books which include accounts from surviviors they speak of a major crush outside, struggling to breathe etc and that situation was only getting worse. Decision to open gate was taken to ease the crush outside ground, lack of signs/stewarding inside ground resulted in too many fans heading for the central pen which ultimately resulted in the crush and subsequent deaths
