New Hillsborough Inquest

Just seen in the news that a new inquest into the Hillsborough disaster is going to be carried out.
Hasn't there just been one and what do they hope to achieve going over old ground?

It was 23 years ago, nothing will bring the victims back, move on
If the gate hadn't been opened the likelihood is that fans would have been crushed to death outside against the turnstile walls

Totally agree joeluke, the police had no option other than to open the gates to avoid a disaster outside, those fans then poured into the ground which caused the crush behind the goal.
What they should take into account is the police back then didn't have any health and safety concerns, their job was to herd fans from A to B.
A similar incident happened at the same ground in the early 80s when Spurs played a semi final game there, sadly lessons were not learnt.

Elvis - the 1989 semi was a replay of the 1988 one, same teams, same ground. But there were no problems at the 1988 semi. However, by the time of the 1989 semi there had been a change in police chief in Yorkshire, and the policing at the game was completely different from a year before.
Joeluke, whilst I agree with you that there appear to be some vindictive people out there I think that the majority of the families of those killed just want to know the truth. Remember that the recent inquery found that 41 of those that died may have been saved if different actions had been taken.
Craft, you're right, the actions of these families are no different from those taken by other bereaved people. Only this morning on BBC news there was a lady who was campaigning for pubs and clubs to not be serving alcohol in glass bottles and/or glasses after 9pm because her husband was stabbed to death by someone in a pub with a broken glass bottle.
