Waste of time and money? We must be down to the hard core addicts by now, they must know the dangers. I suppose these may serve to stop the kids starting but going by the numbers of young fools I see smoking probably not.

The kids are still starting. I have two teenage boys and I'm shocked by how many of them smoke.
How about putting a deadly poison in say 1 in every hundred. If they want to play russian roulette with their health lets make it more interesting
Zedbloke......I agree with you entirely.....folks have been told of the association of lung cancer and smoking since the report of the Royal College op Physician's report in the 1950's and they continue to smoke.
They would be better to have an advert featuring david cameron and george osborne smiling like cheshire cats and thanking the smokers for the tax
I think people just have the "It won`t happen to me" mentality.
Yes, 237, and they also don't look at the packets and when the ads come on they get up and make a coffee and have a fag.
What worries me is, if everyone gives up smoking, how will our lords and masters make up the missing revenue?
Some people just like smoking, OH and most of his family do. Pictures on the pack won't stop him, he smokes roll-ups.
they will probably start heavily taxing fast food and alcohol after that
True, ummm. They`re in denial. I`ve lost count of the times I`ve heard people say "Yes but my grandad smoked until he was 91 and he was never ill in his life" or "Yes but I could get run over by a bus tomorrow"
Souldarkness - nicotine is one of the deadliest poisons, what poison did you have in mind?
something they won't be used to Can Ricin kill if smoked?

Whenever this comes up people start bleating on about revenue, irrelevant, the true cost of smoking vasty outweighs any income. Ok if everyone stopped tomorrow they're would be a small hole but nothing in the scheme of things.

\\\"Yes but my grandad smoked until he was 91 and he was never ill in his life" or \\\

and thereby lies the problem...........this happens to hundreds and thousands of smokers, outliving non smokers.

So....one has to be careful........if smoking caused cancer, then why don't ALL smokers get cancer?

..and the savings in the NHS would make up for it.

Further to the above, I know a several smokers and mostly they get bootlegg, they don't even pay UK duty!
It wasn't so long ago that the tobacco companies were spending millions on adverts telling us that smoking was glamorous and the thing to do. These anti smoking ads won't stop everybody but they could help reduce the number who start.
Dunno, sqad but it`s not just cancer anyway, is it. It`s arterial disease as well.
237SJ........quite........but let's just stick to the topic of lung cancer.
My cat's a passive smoker and he's 19, that makes him 133.
