No problem there but how is it that they can get fat living on benefits? surely we are paying them too much in the first place. How can they afford to smoke drink and live on takeaways? Benefits must be huge.

There were no fat prisoners in Belsen.
This government won't be happy until the whole population are stick thin and working until they drop dead at the grindstone or gathering winter fuel in the woods .
Some people are obese through no fault of their own .Perhaps they have a medical condition that causes them to be obese. Not everyone is a lardy bum through choice .
How do they intend to implement this load of tosh ?
In the meantime they could get their own house in order and buy Eric Pickles and few more of the well fed fat boys lounging round the House of Commons some exercise equipment .
pdq1.... 'There were no fat prisoners in Belsen. '

Two questions...

Did you ring in to LBC with that line this morning? And number 2, what the hell has that got to do with anything?
Not many people are fat through medical conditions. If that were the case I'm sure they'd be exempt from these cuts.
i'm fat because i eat and drink too much. if i was on benefits i wouldn't be able to afford to eat or drink, so that would solve that one
Divegirl, no I didn't but that quote has been going around for years.
the poorest tend to have the worst diet, perhaps they need educating about better food management, than having benefits slashed.
anyone who can liken Belsen to being thin has to have something wrong with them. Most people know the history of Belsen so why make such a comparison.
Oh...thats alright then :0/ Sorry, still makes no sense to me.

And to add my two pennies...

I am not in receipt of benefits, but like some am borderline, I can only dream of a gym membership and having enough money to go swimming. Yes I do need to lose weight and also suffer with chronic back pain. Maybe a year on the dole would do me good!

Agreed Em...
A year on the dole will just make you depressed.
i get state benefits, am slightly overweight, which i am trying to keep under control. have had a long working life, paid tax and so on. Benefits shouldn't be available to people, unless for example they have a life threatening illness, or are permanently disabled with no chance of working, to those who have paid not a penny into this country.
I dont think people generally need to eat a lot to become fat, just a lot of eating the wrong food and a sedentary lifestyle are enough to make someone gain weight. I have known some seriously obese people, the only thing they both had in common was a dependency on sugar/sugary food, they never ate proper meals, they bought a lot of cheap sweets and chocolate from the pound shops.

you dont necessarily have to buy a lot of food, just enough of the wrong sort of food will do it.
the point i am making is that not all obese people are languishing on the dole, many work, have worked, and maybe, just maybe they have lost their jobs. That makes you incredibly depressed, which in turn can make you comfort eat.
'Draconian and silly' sums it up and it won't happen. What would the Tories do with no 'benefit scroungers' to demonise
not just the tories though is it?
//What would the Tories do with no 'benefit scroungers' to demonise//

Benefit scroungers deserve to be demonised. The system was never designed to keep people who don't want to work and needs a serious overhaul. Having said that, I don't think everyone on benefits is a scrounger, and neither do I think this is a workable plan. It's daft.
I am fat and on benefits (ESA), but I am not on benefits because I am fat. I worked for 24 years (and 33 days) paying out benefits.

I feel sorry for many of the unemployed - the ones who genuinely want to work but have been unable to find a job.

Most of the clients are normal just like us (whatever 'normal' means) but there is a small amount of them who seem to have everything and keep on breeding.

There is no magic solution to the problem.
What about giving them a trouser allowence cause the ones they wear are not suitable for restraunts and getting on the bus Today while getting on the bus a slightly over weight person leaned down to pick up their bags of food nah you dont wantta know
