Should be interesting to see how successful he is in his quest to prove that Met officers only pulled him up because he was black.

Would the individuals who have been arrested under Metropolitan Police’s Operation Yewtree, also have a case, by complaining that they have been arrested because they are white?

Incidentally does anyone find it strange that he chose to go to accused right-wing, racist newspaper The Daily Mail with his story?

/// “I am being targeted because of the colour of my skin, I don’t think it’s because I am Stephen’s brother,” he told the Daily
Mail. ///

I've always had a big problem with the whole Stephen Lawrence case. The police mess up a fair few murder enquires not because they are racist but because they are, at times. incompetent. I havent known many cocked up murder cases go as far as a public enquiry. However bad it is to lose anyone in that way at least the Lawrence family got alot more closure than most.

Ok you want a reasonable debate (although one should question if that is possible given your favourite subject matter).

I have lived in Tottenham I have many black friends I have been in cars when they were pulled over and witnessed first hand the way they were spoken too, compared to how I was spoken to the time I was pulled over for speeding.

So do I think the police have a case to answer yes, am I a police hater no.
the people in op yewtree who are being arrested, are being because a complaint of sexual assault has been made against them by a member or members of the public.
So if they are all white (and its not proved they are) how do you/radio presenter make the leap to racism by the police?
In 1989 when I worked in London I was going to stay the weekend with a friend in Kent and one of my colleagues, who I didn't know very well, kindly offered to give me a lift as he was visiting his sister in the same town.
I complimented him on his car (a very nice Mercedes) and he said he was thinking of getting rid of it as he was always being stopped by the police who thought he'd stolen it.
I was sceptical about this until 15 minutes into the journey we were pulled over by the police who simply asked to see all his documents, and gave no reason for stopping him...................my colleague was Jamaican.
AOG - It might be wise to tread carefully on the Steven Lawrence matter - cos you might post something that you privately will regret ( or perhaps you wont regret , come to think of it )

Then 'what the heck' has he got to complain about?
One of my employees a few years back was a young black guy.

He had a very nice company car, dressed well and lived near Brixton.

I was staggered when he told me how frequently he was pulled over for a documents check. He seemed to accept it as part of life - a young black guy in a flash motor - but I would have found it incredibly annoying.

Perhaps we could have the Police in aog's area test out an 'old blokes driving around are probably up to no good' policy.

Then, when he's been p1ssed about for the umpteenth time we can ask him how he likes it.

he is complaining because he is repeatedly being pulled over for no good reason and thinks that its because of his colour, the police assume the car is stolen

/Then 'what the heck' has he got to complain about?/

Err

being pulled over 25 times for no good reason

are there any other aspects of this case you would like us to explain to you aog?

I've got a feeling of Deja Vu ( in the sense that i've seen that posted before )
Have you made that comment before , or am i going mad ?
If what he says is shown to be true, then he has a lot to complain about - harassment by the police based solely upon the colour of his skin - and if it is shown to be true, then, for some of the Met at least, attitudes have not progressed much beyond the days of the SPG and the fictional Constable Savage.....

AOG are you serious ? - if you personally had been stopped / are being stopped so frequently - would you be happy about it ?
When I saw this report I guessed it was ideal AOG fodder and I was not mistaken.

Your latest technique is highly amusing. Linking two obviously unconnected things in a crass and offensive manner. A story about unruly school children then let's lob in a reference to gang rape in India. A story about an innocent blackman being stopped multiple times by the police, link it to perverts having sex with underage girls 40 years ago.

To finally answer your question, the whie men who have been arrested under operation Yewtree anve had complaints made about them reported to the police, and the police are obliged to investigate the claims. Stephen Lawrence's brother has had no complaints made against him to warrant constant attention of the police.

Yes I admit all unfortunate generalisations, but perhaps that is because of past experiences that some officers and their colleagues had experienced from some black people?

The issue with the Mercedes, perhaps you would take a different view if your Mercedes had happened to be stolen from a certain area, wouldn't you expect the police to be on the look out for suspected car thieves?

I drive a lush mercedes, AoG - have for years, and guess what? Not once, not ever, despite driving around in areas like Tottenham, Hackney, Southgate, Finchley, Newham - Not once have I ever been pulled over by plod.

Its anecdotal evidence I know - but compare and contrast to a black friend of mine, regularly travels in the same sort of areas, drives a nice BMW - last 3 years, pulled over 7 times.

Constable Savage lives on, it seems.....

if my car was stolen, i would report it stolen to the police giving them the registration and a description, i wouldn't expect them to waste time looking for it by pulling black men driving nice cars with a different reg on the basis that they are black + its a nice car so it must be stolen.
yes trig

it's impressive

as is aog's definition of a 'generalisation'

i.e. an actual personal experience
