There is no snow where I live but yet when I went to do my weekly shop there were idiots filling their trollies with basic essentials. Nothing left for me, I was just doing my normal Thursday night shop I hasten to add. I despair at how thick, stupid and selfish the general public are.

They closed on Saturday afternoons if you remember AOG. I think it was the late fifties, early 60's when shops stayed open all day Saturday.
Em...many terraced houses were built to accommodate the factory workers. People tended to work locally.
Tesco hadn't run out of anything last night. At least not before I started hoarding.
i was in the supermarket at 7.30am, which is rare for me, i was concerned about the turn in the weather, but also the freezer needed restocking, now it's done don't need to go out again today, or even tomorrow. It's snowing like a blizzard here, so expect if do go out in the next couple of days, will be wearing Arctic gear. i might be some time...
That was only in some places ummmm. Where houses were built for factory workers. My Dad always had to commute to work as did loads of others.
Nothing here at all yet, I note Dollie says it's starting along the coast in Brighton - but it's bitterly cold. I got toilet rolls and cat food last night, that was all I need to get by.
Well if all you eat is catfood Boxy, no wonder you need the extra loo rolls!!!

/// I was in Sainsbury at 19.00 last night and the only thing that they had run out of was carrots. ///

Strange that, but while on the subject of carrots, why of all the vegetables are they so cheap.

Also why of all the fruits are Bananas so cheap?

Also why are Chestnuts only available at Christmas time?

Sorry about that, but these important issues need answering :0)
LOL lottie - no, I mean everything else I need is already in the house, we seem not to have eaten much since last week's shop!

Can never remember shops closing Saturday Afternoon.
i remember seeing some old film footage of thousands of commuters coming off trains at a number of the London stations, from the newly burgeoning suburbs, commuting by rail into the cities isn't a new phenomenon. A number of family members worked on the railways, pre and post WW1.
it is true that homes were built for workers locally, especially in mining and heavy industry.
from wiki
19th century London was transformed by the coming of the railways. A new network of metropolitan railways allowed for the development of suburbs in neighbouring counties from which middle-class and wealthy people could commute to the centre. While this spurred the massive outward growth of the city, the growth of greater London also exacerbated the class divide, as the wealthier classes emigrated to the suburbs, leaving the poor to inhabit the inner city areas.

The first railway to be built in London was the London and Greenwich Railway a short line from London Bridge to Greenwich, which opened in 1836. This was soon followed by the opening of great rail termini which linked London to every corner of Britain. These included Euston station (1837), Paddington station (1838), Fenchurch Street station (1841), Waterloo station (1848), King's Cross station (1850), and St Pancras station (1863). From 1863, the first lines of the London Underground were constructed.
As long as I have plenty of toilet rolls & flour for my breadmaker, I'm OK.
Ever since I bought my snow shovel last year before the snow hadn't even arrived the weather has taken a change for the worse and have been inundated with the white stuff. Before that we had snow free Winters. Its a good job we bought the shovel when we did as Tesco's have sold all the stocks.

The moral is to always get in quick even if it means trampling over all the other eager shoppers to make your purchase.

I am no baking expert but toilet rolls to make bread, is that two ply or three? :0)
I bought some grippy roll-out thingies in Aldi a couple of months ago, to put under the tyres if I get stuck in a slippy bit. This followed last year getting stuck in Morrisons car park, I was only able to get out because I had some cardboard in the boot.
it's going to be bad, just looked out the window, it's still snowing, and has settled, damn.

Tesco's, one must ask what are they made of? :0)

That was your problem, they only work in Aldi's car park. :0)
Getting heavier snow in Hove now so be warned those further along the coast to the east.
They did AOG. They really did! Well they did in Wimbledon and then they did in Bedford as well. A few large stores stayed open but not the independent shops, except for very, very few. When we first came to Norfolk in 1979 the bakers in the town all closed at midday on a Saturday!!
