wait for the fallout from our more right leaning brethren..
Its like putting the clock back when homosexuals were not tolerated and was also a criminal offence to engage in sodomy. Now that East London has a domination of non-christian faiths they feel it OK to make their own religious laws and create enclaves where outsiders are not tolerated. Its hard to believe Muslims don't have the same relative proportion of gays as the general population but if they do there must be a lot of closeted homosexual muslims in East London.

suspect that there are, and that they would be ostracised from their community, families if they come out. Did you watch the video, makes me quite angry to be honest, wonder if there are more like this going to come out the woodwork
The good news is that two men have already been taken into custody.

If charged I would be very interested to hear what their defence will be. This will be a perfect opportunity for people to reassess the recent change in law, because it could be argued that they were merely using 'insulting words', rather than making all out threats.

And to make another leap...say if it's proven that under this new legislation they're found not guilty. What then? Potentially a free for all for gay men and lesbians to be taunted, jeered at verbally with no recourse to the law.

But then again, this is all conjecture...

I've seen the video, and a) I'm relieved the young man sensibly didn't engage with these scumbags and b) part of me is disappointed he didn't have some Gareth Thomas-sized mates to turn up and give them the kicking they so richly deserved.

Because basically - they're cowards.

This is going to be a rather tricky one for the EDL. As an organisation they couldn't be accurately described as 'gay friendly'

If you click on the link, I advise you not to read any of the Facebook posts. The language is a little...

...coarse.
" This will be a perfect opportunity for people to reassess the recent change in law, "

You seem to have that arse backwards. There's not been a recent change in the law that allows insulting words - there was planned to be a change in the law that made insulting words illegal.

sp. does it surprise you though, given the area, it doesn't me, however let us see what the law makes of it.
Question Author
watching it on the news, it wasn't all about gay men, the words used against a woman were particularly nasty, then telling others this is a Muslim area keep out is appalling.
Em, where's the video?
Found it.

They need to go somewhere else to live.
Question Author
Naomi, click on the link i put, gives the overall piece, i was watching it
on the news yesteryear, will see if can find the video link, one charmer basically called a woman a hooker for supposedly not dressing appropriately.
Question Author
Sorry Em, we cross posted.
Question Author
no problems, but they won't live elsewhere will they, i don't think they are lone nutters either,
No, they won't - and no, they're not.
Question Author
if you watch right to the end of the video the chap being interviewed condones these vigilante actions, is this the shape of things to come, or is it already here, and the powers that be have been turning a blind eye.
I am glad the two are in custody, and for once thank heavens for the internet and for the person who posted this on line, otherwise the police wouldn't have the evidence,
I watched it all. I'm delighted that they're in custody. Shame the bloke at the end is not with them. They're madmen and nothing will change them.
Question Author
but they are here, and in increasing numbers. good that we have people like the young man who was also interviewed, balanced and a fair response, but sadly i wonder why so many seem to have this backwards attitude. Seeing as how Britain has struggled to get laws, legislature into place with regards to women's and gay people rights, we now have to countenance people like this. Do they not know that there are laws you abide by and that speaking so is wrong on every level.
//Do they not know that there are laws you abide by...//

They know, but they'd like the law to change.

//.... and that speaking so is wrong on every level. //

They don't think they are wrong, and I don't believe they can be reasoned with.
