If she was a hardened trafficer she would have the resources to ease her sentence.

Do you think UK Government should intervene on behalf of this case ?

Well that's what it looks like Trigger.
I have to say, the more I read, the more I actually take back my first comment. She was quite clearly used as a scapegoat and it's actually very, very sad.
i think they should intervene somewhat - but not to get her off with this or have her brought here, just to have her sentence changed to imprisonment - as i dont think the crime of drug smuggling warrants death - very few crimes do.
only the most utterly evil, horrific and dispicable crimes should be punishable by death.
(i dont agree with the death penalty, mainly due to misuse of it)

there is still an unfortunate belief with many people that they are immune from the laws in foreign countries - they think being a british (or american) citizen means they will be excused any wrongdoing - i have heard people actually say it with smug smirk!

for some reason they think they can do what they like and the embassy will sort it out and bring them home - they wont and they dont - and i think this is what makes some people take stupid risks.

there were a series of tv ads years ago stating just this, which i think they should still show every so often.
IMO the death penalty is repugnant, whatever the crime or where it was committed.

However, this country should not have to pay to keep this drug smuggler incarcerated for the length of whatever prison that term may be handed down
The death penalty is barbaric regardless. I think there is a limit as to what the government can do since the culprit would have known what she was risking, but in any death penalty case I'd approve of the government putting in a request for clemency.
Sometimes drug mules are set up to get caught while attention is on them other mules get through. Shapelle corby is a case that was very dodgy. However they know the penalties however harsh and still take the risk.
She had no qualms about bringing in drugs to give misery and potentially death to others.

It is well known what will happen to you if you do it out there yet she went ahead.

Will it affect tourism? Possibly a few right-on pot smoking hippies might not go but perhaps they dont want that sort anyway.

No we should not get involved, they should just get on and shoot her.
if guilty then why should they. I don't buy into what has been written that she only did it because her children were being threatened. What was she doing in Thailand in the first place, and where were the children, back in UK? too many missing pieces of this jigsaw. Others are also in the frame with her, so she didn't do this alone..
i also don't believe in the death penalty, it is no deterrent obviously, especially when you look at USA's record on it.
I have no sympathy for people who knowingly committed a crime, big or small. A crime is a crime.

If other drug carriers have only got 7 yrs, how come its the death sentence for her? Seems there is more in it than meets the eye.
She should have told authorities that her son was in trouble and hope that he gets out of it safely. Stupid woman, she has herself to blame.
Yes of course we should intervene- the more people worldwide kept from judicial murder the better, there is talk of mental illness, threats and her having done a deal wth police which has not been honoured. It's all pretty disgraceful.

I agree with Nox.

If we can't deport Abu whatsit, a terror suspect as he might be tortured by the authorities in Jordan then I think the government should put pressure on Indonesia to void the death penalty and send her to prison, not necessarily here.

A firing squad would have been better poised for Gary Glitter.

But in this particular case, I am vehemently opposed to state sanctioned murder, regardless of the nationality of the Defendant.
trigg, there are more questions than answers, and no matter how many articles you read, or watch it on the news some of these have not been answered anywhere. If she brought the drugs into their country, then she should face whatever judgement they see fit, don't we say exactly the same for British justice, even though we no longer have the death penalty.
i would like you to tell me why you think she is innocent ?
An unexpected statement from someone who calls herself NoMercy ;-)
You do the crime knowing the consequences...then you have to accept your fate on capture....saying that I suspect there Will be a reprieve and sentence will be commuted to time....
I have no sympathy with her over her conviction whatsoever but if she had made a deal with the prosecutors to give up others in exchange for a 15 year sentence then that is what she should do. Our government should make overtures to the authorities to that effect.
