Deputy Prime Minister and Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg said: "No matter who you are and who you love, we are all equal. Marriage is about love and commitment, and it should no longer be denied to people just because they are gay."
By that logic there should be no denial of marriage to the polyamorous or the incestuous. Or is it a case that some equality is an equality too far!
not quite following your point @20.40 AB, although I understand one line of argument in that strain was seriously suggesting nothing in this legislation prevented bestiality or incest.
I'm a little bit ashamed that I live in a society that has made such a hooha about this and that people feel they have the right to tell us who to fall in love with and how some of us can declare this love through marriage and others can't.
I don't suit hats but I have a lovely fascinator. x
When one forgets all the petty arguments for and against; sit back and look at the situation in the light of day we see married heteros raising families; and t'others just doing what comes unnaturally.
"Isn't incest or polygamy illegal in this country?"
Yes, based on the same religious canon that saw homosexuality as illegal, but the latter has been swept away in relatively recent times so why do the others remain in an increasingly secular society.
Apparently two people can love and commit but three people are incapable of same.
gness, I don't feel entirely comfortable in a society where any political party uses a simple issue like this as a totem for its own internal differences
